It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
Sometimes Karma hates me, but sometimes she's all, "You are so totally my favoritest blue-eyed brunette raising a kid named Alexis in Pittsburgh while running a itty bitty website." Yesterday she liked me. A lot.
Remember the whole swing set debate? I was all, "Should we buy one cause I don't see kids playing with them and I am not wasting my money." Many peeps tried to convince me that swing sets are the greatest thing since a cardboard box when it comes to entertaining a kid, but I was all, "Uh, seriously. The kids in this neighborhood do NOT play on them." I still stand by that. In fact, the next-door-neighbor spent a fortune on an impressive contraption which has been used TWICE that I know of. TWICE. In two months.
And with that, I had made up my mind to buy a playhouse (eventually). If Alexis really wanted to play on some swings, she was either going to have to make friends with the neighbor girl or she was going to have to con me into driving her to the big community playground about a mile away. It was all good.
Then a swing set walked into our yard yesterday.
Really. The neighbor from a few doors down was all, "My kids don't play on this thing. Want it?" and we were all, "HECKS, YEAH!" and then the swing set walked on over.
I don't know who is happier: me that we have kick-ass neighbors, husband that he has a project to work on, Alexis that she has a swing, or the dogs that they have a slide.
And, yes, I did mean to say "dogs" and "slide" in the same sentence. I'll bet a ton of cash that Meg plays with that slide longer than Alexis does.

CLASSIC!
We have a much bigger contraption with a playhouse and all, spent a few pennies on it and the kids prefer to play in the front yard on the sidewalk. We practically have to kick them out the backdoor to play on the swingset! Our dog gets up to the top of the slide sometimes but she's too scared to come down so she gets stuck until I come help her slide down. She only goes up there if one of the kids have a snack up there or left food up there. So much for a safe hideout from the dog for outdoor snack time.
That was priceless!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was awesome! Our corgi loves to go down the slide - it's probably twice as long and twice as high as yours, so I'm convinced she's going to kill herself on it one day. No worries about the kid, just the dog.
Hooray for free stuff!!
SCORE! Even if Alexis doesn't enjoy playing on it, I would say it was worth it for Meg and Cody!
a swing set just walked into your yard? you have the most amazing luck.
My parents-in-law bought my daughter one of those McMansion Playsets for her 2nd birthday. She loves it, but truthfully we play out front more - riding bikes, sidewalk chalk, basketball, etc.
Not to mention the mosquitos are so bad here that we really only enjoy being outside from Oct-March.
seriously AWESOME! my dogs love the baby pool...i wonder if they would like a slide. now all i need is one to walk in to my yard! (how cool are your neighbors??!?!! sweet!)
I had a similar debate with my husband. We ended up with a swing set/play tower thing. I was wrong in my guessing she wouldn't use it. We swing every single day. Perhaps age is a factor. My daughter will be 2 at the end of the year. By 6 she just might not think it is cool to swing anymore. Until then, swing on swinger.
And now you can get rich sending a video of your dog going down a slide into Funniest Home Videos! It is a win/win! :)
That's awesome! Have I mentioned that 90% of the stuff that we have came that way? Truly, good things come to those who wait.
That's great! At least the dogs will have some more backyard entertainment.
Isn't that great? That's pretty much what happened to us, too. My son doesn't play with it tons, but I still am happy that we have it.
i am not surprised... my dogs LOVE the slides... however, Genny is 10 and we just got rid of our well played swing set because she was too big for it- so there is hope.
Your dogs are hilarious. Meg with that face going down a slide is just too funny. Also, your neighbors gave it to you for FREE?! Because wow! You found the right neighborhood!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the new header!!
That certainly beats a neighbor complaining about a baby swing in the yard right?
I have never seen a walking swingset! Impressive!
That's great! I bet Alexis will actually use it, and will love it! And the dogs certainly seem to like it, anyway...
I wish I had a neighbor like that. We need one of those around here. No really, we do!
Love the dogs on the slide! HA HA HA!
That is hilarious! I had a dog who would run and slide on the linoleum kitchen floors...and smash face first into the closed door to the hallway. Over and over and over.
Oh! That's so cute! We used to get so many looks when we let our dog go on the slide and swing in the neighborhood playground (it isn't like there were any kids there people!) on our daily walk... SHE loved it! Now, we live to far from a park (and too hilly for the Florida Dog) for her little legs to walk there
That is AMAZING. Both the getting a swing set and Meg sliding down the slide. OMG I need to watch it again...
holy crap that's amazing. I wish my dog would do that!
oh that is so awesome. Both the swingset walking over to your yard, AND the dogs sliding down it!
Also: love the new header.
That is so totally worth it if for no other reason than to continue watching Meg slide down!!
