Never Stop

Mila has been attending a parkour camp this week. It was all related to a moment of weakness, and possibly stupidity, but mostly it was because I thought she would love it.

She loves it.

It's a chance to spend hours climbing things and jumping off of things and jumping over things and ... yeah. The kid was made for parkour. There really wasn't any doubt.

BUT.

I knew there would be some less than desirable side effects from this little adventure and HAHAHALOLOLZ I HATE WHEN I'M RIGHT.

The running and jumping and climbing has escalated. The kid has always spent most of her time on top of tables and counters, but now she's making sure she does these big, drama-filled dismounts. I think I preferred the chaotic falling she was doing to get down before? Maybe?

The bigger concern is that Mila has always thought she was invicible. It's a thing that is going to serve her well as an adult, but she looks at hard things and just assumes she can do them. There's no moment of hesitation, no fear, and really no concern if she doesn't do it well. She is perfectly comfortable living in imperfection. (... As if I needed another example of the ways Mila and Alexis are different ...) The whole thing adds up to a kid who sees the biggest wall at parkour camp and is like, "I can jump off of that."

She probably can. They haven't let her, but that's because they are sane humans who see a tiny 7-year old who doesn't care if she follows directions perfectly. The thing where they won't let her? It has the little beast SO pissed off. It's all she has talked about for two days now. "I should be able to jump off the big wall," and "It's not fair that they won't let me do what I'm good at."

I mean. This kid.

$10 says she makes a run for it on the last day of camp. I simply don't think she knows how to let the world hold her back.

Living La Vida Cookie Crisp

In what is either the best idea I've ever had or the absolute worst idea that I've ever had, Mila is signed up for a parkour camp this week. The kid plays "The Floor is Lava" approximately ALL OF THE TIME and is constantly sitting on tables, walking across furniture, or jumping off of things, so maybe this will help her do all of those things more safely? I sure as hell can't stop her.

It's not for a lack of trying.

Schedules being what they are, parkour camp starts tomorrow. That means I had a random Monday when I could either keep Mila home or send her to her regular camp and hahahahalolz I picked wrong. I kept her home. But, SURPRISE! She was actually really good all day. She made a bunch of crafts for me, which involved learning how to draw stars. Do you want to see a Mila flip all the way out from happiness? Teach her how to draw a star. It's truly magical.

ANYWAY. Mila was good all day, though I should have sent her to regular camp because ZOMG THE KID KNOWS HOW TO PARTY.

So, I said, "You're staying home from camp today." Mila translated that into, "You can live in pajamas and eat Cookie Crisp all day."

Like, she's a genius, right? She legit refused to get dressed because, "I don't have to if I'm staying home." And the Cookie Crisp is the most giant bag of cereal you've ever seen. She's been pecking away at it for weeks, but a whole day at home meant she could stick her face in it and just go. There was a point where I put some real food in front of her, but she was pretty happy living la vida Cookie Crisp, so whatever.

We all need a break sometimes. I'm glad at least one of my kids knows how to slow down for a day, though she DEFINITELY didn't learn it from me.
