Apples and Turkeys and Adorable Hats, Oh My

Another thing on our long list of last-second summer accomplishments was apple picking. There's a reason we needed to go apple picking and her name is Mila.

Mila REALLY loves it. So much.

We've gone to various places each year, but this year we ended up at the BEST place. It is a small, family-owned orchard in the middle of nowhere and WE LOVED IT.

There were no long lines, it wasn't crowded, even on a Saturday, and Mila was free to roam because there's a fence that runs around the perimeter. Have I mentioned that I love fences? I love fences a lot, especially when they prevent Mila from escaping. Also, the apples were inexpensive and taste amazing.

But mostly, the fact that this little person could spend an hour carefully selecting the perfect mixture of red, green, and mixed apples was amazing. When she was done filling her bag, she gleefully filled her hat.

And then she pet a turkey named Football. With her hands. While the other kid hid safely 50 yards away because that other kid wouldn't make eye contact with a bird if her life depended on it. She most certainly isn't touching one or feeding it mealworms.

(It was Half Crown Hill Orchard, by the way. Highly recommended and stuff, but make sure to check their hours on Facebook before heading there.)

Of course, no good deed goes unpunished, so I have now been asked to go "to that place where we were yesterday with the apples and turkeys" because Mila needs to pick another bushel of apples and she would like to take a turkey home as a pet.

Seriously.

"Cody and Penny want a turkey friend," is her most recent explanation for why we need to go back RIGHT now.

That's definitely not going to work out for Mila.
