Day One Hundred Nine

The thing about big age gaps is that it's super easy for the little sister to get the impression that the world revolves around her.

Because it does.

Every moment of every day, Mila is the center of the universe. It's absolutely true. Alexis will drop anything to make sure Mila is happy. I'm not far behind. I'm definitely better at telling the Tiny Human "No," but that's a low bar right there.

That's how it came to be that I bought a white dress for Mila even though it wasn't her turn for a photo shoot. I knew she would want to crash the shoot and it was better if she had something to wear. Some of Alexis' old dresses are still around, but the size difference between the two girls makes things complicated. There's also the fact that their half birthdays are at opposite times of the year. The old Alexis dress that would have fit Mila is basically a sweater dress.

It's a little hot out for a sweater dress. Just a little.

So I had a special dress ready. I also had a special bouquet of daisies just for Mila. Every other year there has been this weird fight where Mila doesn't understand that the daisies are for Alexis, so I was prepared.

And then there was the order of events. I purposely led with Mila, and then transitioned to both girls. The idea was for Mila to get bored of being in front of the camera and wander off.

She didn't get bored on her own.

And that is how it came to be that I caught on camera the exact moment that I asked Mila to let Alexis get some photos by herself.

Yep, that girl thinks the universe revolves around her.
