YOU GUYS. HAMILTON. HAMILTON!
I had been working on my plan to take Alexis to see Hamilton in Pittsburgh for two years. TWO YEARS. The minute there were whispers of a national tour, I started making sure I had properly angled for tickets. In the interest of full disclosure, that's why we have Broadway Series tickets. Having season tickets last year guaranteed you Hamilton tickets this year and YES, PLEASE. It's ridiculous to sign up to pay for like 8 shows when you're pursing one show, but it's okay. I'm ridiculous sometimes.
Even more ridiculous is the fact that I accidentally ended up with four extra tickets. I had our two season tickets and then wound up being number 350 in line to buy tickets on the lottery day and WHATEVER. JUST BUY ALL OF THE HAMILTON TICKETS.
I did. I really did. And then I sold the extras at face value, so go right ahead and judge me. You should.
All of that is to say, we wound up being fortunate enough to go to Hamilton this past weekend, and we did it with two of my favorite people on Earth. They drove in from Indiana especially to hang out with Alexis and me, or maybe they were more interested in hanging out in the room where it happens. Either way, it was a perfect recipe for a great night.
But then there was that weather.
Future me should take note of the fact that we were supposed to get like three feet of snow or something ridiculous, except not because maybe it would go north, but maybe it would go south, or maybe nobody would get snow. OR MAYBE A BUBBLE WOULD FORM OVER PITTSBURGH.
I swear that's what happened.
We got more rain that we should ever have in January, but no snow on the day we were supposed to get the most of it. And since we had awesome people in town, we spent the day tromping around downtown Pittsburgh. In the rain.
My feet were really very wet by the time we sat down to watch Hamilton.
I think that might just be a solid measure of how good a show is. I was soaked to the bone, wet feet and all, but totally and completely forgot for the entirety of the show. It's just ... so good. Perfect. Amazing. Fantastic. It's the only show that I've ever watched where at the end I wanted them to just start over from the top. As in, I want to see it on repeat. I'd go again right now. And again in three hours.
I really super hope that everyone who wants to see it gets a chance. It's that rare unicorn that exceeds the hype. Just maybe go see it with dry feet because cold, wet feet are not all that fun.
