Before I try to make any sort of a point, let's just get this out of the way. Yes, I know Christmas is over and OMG-it-happened-LAST-YEAR-let-it-go-already-can't-we-just-move-on-I'm-so-sick-of-Christmas-stuff-just-take-your-trees-down-already!
Better now?
Good.
Every year I make it a point to take Alexis somewhere fun to look at Christmas lights. OK, so I take her so *I* can look at the lights, but she's my co-conspirator. We rotate the "where" and this year was Oglebay in West Virginia.
In my opinion, the Oglebay displays are not as impressive as those you'll find at Hartwood Acres. However, what Oglebay lacks in displays it makes up for in being more accessible (read: traffic doesn't suck quite as bad) and there's a Tim Horton's very close to the entrance. Timbits can make anything better.
Especially the ones with fruit filling.
Another advantage to Oglebay is that there is a small area where you can get out of your car and look around.
It's totally worth suffering through a little bit of cold weather. Not that we've had that this year, but still. It does sometimes happen.
In the middle of the light garden there is a large manger scene. It's enclosed behind glass and made with life-size figures. The unfortunate thing about that "enclosed" situation is that I VERY badly want to correct a little something every time I see it.
I suppose Joseph is supposed to look like a doting father, but he actually looks a bit more . . .
. . . like he's about to murder Mary and Jesus.
Somebody REALLY needs to fix that.
