Pants.

I'm not sure if anyone has ever noticed, but Mila swore off pants about two seconds after she was born. She literally has never once willingly wore real pants. Leggings? Sure. Sweat pants? Maaaaaybe, but only in the past couple of months and only because Alexis wears them essentially every day. Monkey see, monkey do, y'know? Jeans? HAHAHAHA...NOPE. Even as a tiny baby, Mila made it very clear that there was absolutely no way she was ever going to wear jeans. Never ever.

Sunday, though. On Sunday, Alexis and I pulled off the ultimate in shenanigans.

JEANS!

Getting Mila to even put jeans on her body cost us an hour of coaxing, promises of a trip to the Disney Store, two stuffed animals (the Stitch and Angel she's holding), clothes for those two stuffed animals (yes, seriously), and $20. No joke, the kid screamed and complained and refused and then slowly bartered her way into being Queen of the Universe just to wear pants.

I was pretty sure it would never happen again. Mila didn't complain about them much all day, but I've met her. I know that once she has made up her mind, she's done. It's so hard to get her to shift an opinion even a tiny bit. She decided pants were evil forever ago, so that's very likely to continue to be her stance until she finds some reason to change that probably involves defying me.

Except.

About halfway through the day, Mila and I went for a bit of a walk. We wandered into a small store where we found some funky bracelets and necklaces and such. Mila picked out a few things. As we were walking back to watch her sister dance, she was holding her trinkets, as she generally does, until I was like, "You do have pockets. You can put those in them."

She was FLOORED. Like, it never occurred to Mila that pockets could exist in pants. She occasionally has them in one of her dresses, but pants? PANTS CAN HAVE POCKETS? WUUUUT?

It was truly a magical moment for the child.

And maybe, just maybe, it will be reason enough for her to maybe consider wearing pants one more time in her life.

But probably not.
