Stuck in Her Ways

More than three weeks into this MILA IS REAL thing, it's interesting to note home much things can change while still staying the same.

This child came with a schedule. She's had it for months and months. Now it's a fan-freakin-tastic schedule, but before I'd met her, the schedule was a giant pain in the you know what. She's a night owl, this one, which means it is time to par-tay from 9:00 pm until about 2:00 am. We've had lots and lots of talks about that 2:00 am thing. I now mostly have her convinced that 11:00 pm is a reasonable time to hang up the dancing shoes and turn off the disco lights.

Mornings, though. MAN. There is no convincing the force that is Mila that mornings are even remotely acceptable. For months and months and months, she has slept her little butt off until noon. Now? That's cool. Sleep on, little friend.

Before she was born, however? NOT SO MUCH FUN.

Paranoia and fear can be chased away by a little bump or nudge or hiccup. When a not-yet-born kid refuses to do any of those things until noon, the only reasonable thing to do is poke. A lot. And maybe jump up and down, yell "Good morning!" and send in a search party. Seriously, every morning had the potential for a panic attack because she would not budge even a tiny bit. If I hadn't figured out the pattern, I would have lost my mind.

Mila. She's the one who caused near panic attacks long before birth.
