In a little less than 24 hours, a full decade will have passed since an amazing human crash-landed into my life.
Of her 9 pounds 12 ounces, I think 8 pounds was heart.
She was and is the kindest person I know. We often talk about how her heart is too big, and how it leads her to seeing the world a little differently than other people.
It's an interesting combination, that giant heart built into the youngest grandma ever. Alexis is cautious yet wise. She's sweet yet cunning. She's crazy smart and just plain crazy. And, best of all, she knows that all of those things are what make her fantastic.
She's never lacking for a reason to be positive. She's always finding ways around problems. She's great at determining compromises. Alexis is just plain a good person.
And she's my person. I mean, I have to share her with a lot of other people, but when darkness falls and the night is heavy, I'm the person she finds. She's the person I find.
Happy 10th birthday, Alexis. Thanks for being you.
(I'm going to tell Alexis to read this post sometime this week. Maybe wish her a happy day in comments where she will see them?)
