Too Fast

It's the best when insult gets piled on top of injury, so of course Mila followed up her first ever dance recital and birthday party with another reminder that she's growing up entirely too fast -- kindergarten screening. I don't really know what the purpose of the whole activity is, but Mila was over the moon about getting the opportunity to go hang out at the school she'll be attending entirely too soon.

The highlight, of course, was getting to talk to a teacher for an hour. They chatted about letters and numbers and words and all sorts of things. Mila thought it was THE BEST. She will happily answer math questions and point out the letters she knows just as long as I'm not the one asking the questions. If I ask, she knows nothing. A stranger, though? Apparently she knows it all.

I'm going to side with thinking it's better that way than the reverse. Fortunately she has learned a few things along her way. I'll survive if she never tells me those things.

The teacher's report after the fact revealed a thing I definitely didn't know - Mila can be downright charming when she tries. She told stories about the things she is going to do this summer, including how she's going to eat all of her vegetables so she can be taller for kindergarten and ZOMG THE CUTE. She also can't start kindergarten until she rides a roller coaster, so I guess we better start working on that.

The lasting moment of the day, however, came as we were about to leave. The staff at the school had set out a bunch of props for photos including a big frame with Mila's graduation year on it.

2032.

TWENTY THIRTY-TWO.

Don't do the math for how old you'll be when Mila graduates from high school. It's really very bad for your health.
