When It's Sleep vs. Food, I'm Siding with Sleep

If there is one thing that I can make very, very clear, it's that I adore my girls with a ferocity that can't be described.

I SUPER adore them.

But I wasn't entirely sad when Alexis wasn't home the morning of Mother's Day.

*********************************************************************

It started when she was four or maybe five years old. Sweet little Alexis will always win the game of "Who Can Wake Up First" so that wee little girl found herself wide awake on Mother's Day morning and in need of doing something amazing. That wee little girl wandered to the kitchen and did her very best to put together a breakfast.

The husband nearly always works on Sundays, so she did her best all by herself. There were rules about using ovens and stoves and anything that can start a fire at the time, so she did her best with cereal and some fruit. She did good. Very good.

I say that without a hint of sarcasm. The cereal was a little mushy by the time she delivered it to my bedside, but that wasn't the issue. The issue was that wee little Alexis woke up at 5:00 to make that breakfast. She showed up in my face and yelled "HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!" at half past OH MY GOODNESS, GO BACK TO BED o'clock.

I nearly died that morning. I just wasn't prepared for so much yelling and happy so very early. To say it all startled me would be an understatement.

And with that, a tradition was born. Every year Alexis has risen way before any human should rise and she has made breakfast. Every year she has delivered it with a giant grin on her face long before the sun has risen.

I mean, you guys, she LITERALLY wakes me up before the sun comes up.

Every year.

Except this year. This year the super sweet and super awesome Alexis slept over at a friend's house the night before Mother's Day. This year it was just Mila and me in the morning, so I didn't get a bowl of mushy cereal or even a broken up banana.

Instead, I had a Mila-style Mother's Day.

Mila slept until 8:30.

So, yeah. I love me some Alexis, but Mila definitely wins this round.
