Just One of the Days I Want to Keep Forever

I wish there were a way to bottle up an evening. I want to be able to carefully tuck this evening into a little glass bottle, place it on a high shelf behind some books, and save it forever. I would take that bottle down from time-to-time, touch it, peer at it, maybe listen in for a few minutes. Then I would smile before returning the bottle to its home on that shelf, until the next time I needed a little pick-me-up.

Tonight wasn't an exciting evening. Just our usual dinner, 9-mile bike ride, and tucking in the Toddler, but during the drive back from the bike trail, Alexis and I had so. much. fun. Mundane fun, but fun. It started when I pretended to be asleep and snored really loudly. Alexis said, "Wake up!" so I pretended to wake up with a bit of an exaggerated flourish and a "What? Huh?" Alexis nearly passed out laughing when I did it, so I "went back to sleep." Lather, rinse, repeat. Over and over, each time just as funny as the time before. She laughed huge belly laughs that would light up Times Square, if only laughs could be converted to power like they were at the end of Monsters, Inc.

Nothing that interesting, but absolutely something that would be worth living over and over. Here's to hoping that paragraph will be enough to give me that little energy boost the next time I need it.

If not, this picture probably will.

(The answer was peanut butter and jelly. Next time? It won't be so easy.)

Wait... did you seriously say 9 MILES?!??!

I got it right! I got it right!!

Nights like that are the best nights.

Alexis? Girlfriend, you are rockin' the "baby" suit (as Morgan calls it) and the puddle stomping boots.

She and Morgan could have a blast walking around in their rain boots and bathing suits.

:)

OMG - I love those moments! I remember that whole pretend sleeping/snoring and exaggerated wake-up used to crack my kids up!

*sigh* thanks for the pleasant reminder!

Sweet story! And I love this photo - she is definitely "hawt"! And, when is 12, she will absolutely LOVE that you posted it on your blog. LOVE it. (insert a touch of sarcasm) LOL!

Those belly laughs are the best aren't they? That pic is hysterical!

Those are the best moments EVER. They keep coming, all the way through childhood, and you'll collect more and more little bottles of joy. I'm glad you're writing them down.

My kids don't like to hear those stories about themselves anymore, but I catch them telling them now, like it's some kind of ancient history. Something I'd love to bottle. :)

Wonderful! Our Baby Girl was doing the exact.same.thing with her daddy last night right before bed. The best part? The boys heard the laughter and both got out of bed to join in. THAT is why I wanted a king-size bed (no matter what anyone else thinks):)

I love those times!! The ones you want to file away and remember forever!

That picture is priceless. And I love those simple moments and belly laughs. There is truly nothing better than hearing a kid laugh...

I love those moments in time. It's the mundane kind of fun that makes it so special, just a part of the everyday fabric of the lives of a parent that you can't describe to a non-parent. And yet it's so very priceless.

Micah loves rain boots too. Maybe Alexis could teach him to wear something *else* with them.

9 miles? WTH lady? You going for a triathalong or something?
And those boots? Love em.

P.S. Thanks for the Starbucks card! I plan on using it this morning. :)

Real gut busting laughs from a child are the best thing ever. I've had a few of those cherishable moments while babysitting and I can't wait for some with kids I produce. Oh, what trails? Do you bike down by the Mon near Southside?

No wonder I didn't get the "art" as we hate peanut butter 'round here. I want to pinch those thunderous thighs. She's too adorable for words. Mine still loves to play that sleeping game. Of course, be very careful playing it while you are laying down...you're liable to get trampled.

This is awesome. It has inspired me to finish a post I started awhile back.

Thanks for the inspiration and the cute photos of your Alexis, which just make my day.

Those moments will live in infamy. I adore it! And I'm too late to guess, since I already know the answer lol

*Trapped in the car* with a toddler inspires some of the BEST (and worst) memories--but every minute of them is worth it!

Those are the best moments of all. My favorites always seem to come when we are making silly faces at the dinner table. :-)

They laughs are the most beautiful sounds in the world, aren't they? It gets me every time.

I LOVE those days! And I love that they can make me instantly forget the other days - days of endless naps, whining and crying, and just plain difficult children. So glad you got this!

i love those moments so much! and as they happen, I have this voice in my head which says "remember this. Hold tight to this instance" Over and over again...

Mine finds the hic-cups absolutely HILARIOUS. It's awesome.

But just think - tonight when she "makes pukey on your head" you'll forget how awesome this evening was!

Keep yourself open and not bogged down by the garbage and ugly stuff, and you'll have more and more of these moments.

Boots & Suits = Priceless

August 11, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCheri @ Blog This Mom!

It's great that you wrote it down -- that you write it all down -- because these moments that mean so much and we think we will never forget tend to fade with time no matter how hard we try to hold onto them. There are so many things that I remember thinking I'd never forget but the biggest memory left is that of thinking I'd always remember. Wish I had taken more time to putting pen to paper. xoxoxo

Cooper just started playing that "Ni-Ni/Awake" game. I forgot how fun it was playing with Gavin. Enjoy it before she stops playing it with you...that day will come too soon.
