Move Over Warhol, Here Comes the Toddler

For as long as the kid has been able to hold a crayon, Alexis has loved all things artsy. She will color with crayons for hours, nearly passes out from the happy, happy! joy, joy! when I let her paint, and has realized that chalk is a blast when you take it out of your mouth and use it to deface the neighbor's driveway. Her craft table is easily the best investment we ever made. Because she sits at it every. single. day, I pretty much don't even mind that it's right smack in the middle of our living room. I'd be willing to strap that thing to my head if I had to because it gives me the opportunity to occasionally vacuum and maybe reheat leftovers from last month cook.

Seriously. Best purchase ever. (And, yes, we really did get it from One Step Ahead, despite my strong opinion that they profit unnecessarily from New Parent Stupid. Mir posted about the table when it was less than 30% of what we had seen it for at the mall and on Amazon. It was a no-brainer.)

Recently we have moved into a new phase in the artsy fartsy realm--the Toddler is drawing items from her life. She has drawn mommy, daddy, Meg, Jasmine, kitties, houses, rainbows, and even baby sisters (*LA LA LA I am oblivious to your blatant hints, Alexis LA LA LA*). She declares what she is going to draw, draws it, then repeatedly makes you look at whatever it is that she drew. The whole thing kind of makes me a little melty.

Yesterday she painted these two images:

They are apparently of the exact same thing. Yeah, so I'm not really seeing it. However, the Toddler is animate about what is depicted and made it a point to show Mr. Husband that she had drawn *blank blank blank blank*. There's nothing in it for you other than the joy of knowing that you think like a 2 1/2 year old, but wanna guess what it is?

Your hints:

* Some people eat it
* Some people make it while others (i.e. lazy people) go the frozen route
* One of my favoritest lurkers has a dog named after one of the words. She is married to someone who is entirely too nice at all the wrong times.
* You can't have one without the other
* blank blank blank blank

Clearly they're her frog boots and bathing suit. People eat those straight out the freezer.

Ummm, french fries with ketchup? Knowing how much she likes fries :)
But my first idea was pizza :)

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered Commentermomandmonster

well, i was thinkin' macaroni and cheese.

but the green kinda threw me.

unless it's MOLDY macaroni and cheese.

Peanut butter and jelly?

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKellie

The first two hints got me to thinking it was pizza but I'm not so sure.

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMary

I was thinking pizza too, just from the first few hints. What can't you have pizza without though?? Pizza and beer?

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJenn

at first I thought pizza, but that isn't 4 words. So I am guessing french fries with ketchup. Yeah for a craft table that keeps her busy. And, hey, at least Alexis tells you what she is painting. Ashlyn will create something and then I have to try to figure it out. I always feel bad when I can't figure it out.

You could sell those on Ebay!

Birthday cake and ice cream? You really can't have one without the other...

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterThe Mommy

I'm totally on the pizza thought track...and I'm pretty sure any well-educated 2-yr-old knows pizza cannot be eaten without beer, but again - there's that whole 4 word thing and pizza with beer doesn't fit.

Hmmm....french fries with ketchup does fit...but I'm not happy with that answer.

She is so talented :-)
Going with the theme of today... I'm saying cake and ice cream.
If not, french fries with ketchup?
Some people do make that y'know, fries, not ketchup :-) LOL.
After that, I'm stumped.

You are so lucky she'll just sit there, SBB. I have to watch mine like a hawk when the art comes out. I find paint justa boot everywhere even if I pry my lids open and refuse to blink.

PB&J. I've never understood why anyone would buy those frozen circle ones.

Whatever it is, I like it Very colorful.

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterDebbie Yost

Yeah, because your hints make it so easy.

Art tables are my favorite gift to give young kids. We somehow ended up with two. One in the kiddo's room and one in the basement.

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered Commenternikki

Pepperoni Pizza? And I'm guessing because I've known several weiner dogs named Pepperoni.

And Art tables, from what I remember, are a GREAT toy. Right up there with permanent fort (Sasha has a pop up tent he uses), blocks, and playground balls.

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBecoming Mommy

Sheesh. Well it has to be either PBand J OR french fries and ketchup.
that Alexis. You should see those on Ebay.

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMarmarbug

I was thinking pizza because it seems like a good dog name. And there is something round in one of the drawings, but I'm really not sure...

I've just never been good with modern art, really.

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCatwoman

I'm goin' with french fries & ketchup.

Close? No? Then I second tootsie farklepants' guess.

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterColleen

I was going to say mac-n-cheese (partly cuz I'm jonesin' for more of yours...that was good stuff, lady!), but then I realized it wasn't four words...or four syllables.

So I'm saying French Fries and Ketchup for $400, Alex. I'm thinking maybe you bought some of that technicolor ketchup for her and that's why she's got a pool of green ketchup? And Alexis must've had a SuperSize box of fries, cuz I'm seeing lots of fries, piles of them even, around pools of ketchup.

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterColleen

Peanut butter and jelly? I wonder what kind of jelly is green?

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKim

If she were one of my kids, then I would have to say Chicken Nuggets and Fries.

I have to go with the majority here and say French Fries and Ketchup.

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBrandi

I didn't know pb&j came frozen...that's just ridiculous!!!

I set up Krazy K's craft station in the laundry room. Seeing how I spend a majority of my time there.

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

love and marriage...you can't have one without the other...dunno...just following that one hint
xo

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered Commentermelissa

PB&J! All the way!

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterHalfAsstic.com

French fries and ketchup?

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTammy

What an unfair way to force me to give up my lurker status! Of course it is Peanut Butter and JELLY!

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTehAmy

@tehamy--HA!

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBurgh Baby

I"m clueless and not even venturing a guess. I'm not even good at that with my own kids, let alone someone else's.

But I really do like kid art. It always fascinates me to see what they think of and create.

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

Pizza and a Beer - Rolling Rock, in a chilled glass. :)

Okay, not so two-year old, but it warms this forty-year old. :)

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRoger

Pizza and beer!

Isn't that what every toddler draws?

Kimmy

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterkimmy

Ice cream? Or maybe Popsicles ...

or maybe Japanime.

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTranny Head

I wanna say burger and fries but that's probably only because I am craving those... always...

She is talented that wee one of yours!

August 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterElaine A.

While I was originally leaning towards Frozen Dora Broccoli . . I'm going to have to go with PB&J.

August 8, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterjayna

PB&J!

August 8, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterNap Warden

No clue. But they are beautiful works of art!

My brother and SIL framed an abstract done by their daughter when she was 3. Now, 10 years later, it still hangs on the walls and goes great with their decor!

The playground/park?
