Sick
Alexis has been fighting a cold for over a week and last night the little cold escalated to Sick (with a capital "S"). The poor kid obviously has a sinus infection and is flirting with the idea of having the infection spread to her eyes. Her timing, as always, is fabulous. It wasn't until 9:00 last night that it became evident that she was losing the battle. Too late to get hold of our Pediatrician. Too late to do much of anything. Except! Except that my Mother-in-law works at a doctor's office! Magic can happen late at night when you have access to someone that can call in a prescription after just a few phone calls. That magic will be the only reason we will survive the six-hour drive back.
I wonder if my Mother-in-law could arrange for some sedatives for the dogs. Pups sleeping in the back of the SUV would make for the best drive of all time.

So sorry to hear that Alexis is sick! Don't they always get sick when you can't get any help! Though--so glad you were able to get help and survive the drive back. 6 hours home with a sick girl would not have been fun. Can't help much with the dogs...unless you break out the holiday egg nog early and slip them some from the adult bowl. Have a good trip home!
I can diagnose a sinus infection in a heartbeat these days. I just wish *I* could call in the scrip. It would save everybody so much time and money.
Sounds like you had an awesome trip. I loved the pics of Alexis with the cousins!
Poor Alexis! Guess where we HAD to eat dinner tonight, in spite of the fact I feel like I'm getting sick myself? (We only had to wait 20 minutes this time).
It will be good to be home again won't it? Home again, home again, jiggety jig.
Hope she's feeling better soon! Try Dramamine for the dogs. Seriously. Ask the vet for the dosage but we've been told to give our carsick dogs that. Maybe it would act as a sedative as well.
I highly recommend marrying into a family with doctor connections. All we had to do was describe the lovely yellow snot gushing out of her nose, her teary eyes, and the raspy sound she was making and the doctor went, "antibiotics it is." Half an hour later, the drugs were in hand. No back-and-forth with the Pediatrician Police (I swear the people that answer the phone get paid to deter people from actually seeing a doctor), no trip to the Doctor's office, no drama. Other than the really miserable Toddler, that is.
My MIL is the office manager of our doctor's office. Sadly she can't get meds very quickly for us.
The pediatrician, on the other hand, rocks. She thinks I'm a nurse and will give me anything I need. I've corrected her before (think Aero shirt) but to no avail and have since realized it's working for me.
I haz nothing but love for a bully in a baby seat.
