In Need of More Candy, Please
Over a month ago, Mr. Husband took Alexis into the Disney Store. Over a month ago, she BEGGED for a Minnie Mouse costume. Over a month ago, he succumbed to the begging from the short person. Ever since then, she has told EVERYBODY that she was going to be Minnie Mouse for Halloween. Every day. Several times a day. "I be Minnie Mouse for Halloween."
Of course, all of that planning and preparation meant NOTHING once October 31st rolled around. It was almost predictable that she would wake up and suddenly decide that what she meant to say was that she wanted to be Snow White for Halloween. Luckily for her, I had bought her a cheap Snow White costume to play dress-up in a while back. It was intended as a form of bribery during my quest to get her to sleep in her own dang bed all night. It worked for three nights, and came in very handy on Halloween night.
You know, the night when the Toddler had a lot of fun sitting in our doorway, trying very hard to protect HER candy. When she realized that yelling, "No, it's mine!" wasn't going to deter me from handing it out to other kids, she stooped low. Very low. She resorted to opening packs of candy as fast as she could then putting them back in the bucket. She now has a lifetime supply of M&Ms open and just waiting for them to drop into her little mouth.
Yeah, I'm jealous I never thought to do it myself. So what?
At least I trick-or-treat.
The child who freaks out if a stranger so much as looks at her, of course, wanted nothing to do with trick-or-treating once she realized it actually required her to walk up to a stranger's door. She made it to three houses before giving up completely for the night.
Her lack of a candy score almost makes me wish I had listened to her when she was yelling, "No, it's mine!"

What a beautful little Snow White she is.
OMG is that a pumpkin head on a Dora body LOL.That is great!I didn't have any problems from the fearless little person as far as going up to peoples houses.Sometimes it was difficult to get her back.
Playing the pretty princess suits her. Candy suits me. I'm sure it will all be deeply discounted in the morning?
She's makes a wonderful Snow White. (My daughter went as her too!) And the pumkins on the bodies is cool and kinda creepy!
That's just plain funny! I was bummed that only The Girl went out this year and didn't go very far...I was concerned our candy supply would be low! LOL!!
What a smile that Snow White is sporting.
Oh...and p.s.
Is that a Dora something-or-other with a Jack-O-Lantern head?
The Toddler has skillz! And yes...she is definitely your child.
Who would have ever thought that Snow White loves M&Ms? Especially since they're not betchtubles.
Oh man, if you come to Dylan's party, I am unloading the ridiculous amount of candy we have on you!
This was the FIRST year my girlys didn't change their mind at the very last minute. GEEZ, glad those days are over, entirely too stressful for mommies.
She's adorable - totally adorable.
I got 50lbs of candy ... need some? I'm getting rid of it or I'll be 200lbs by Christmas!
Like Butterfingers? Snickers? We got a TON of 'em! No Clark bars = TOTAL BUMMER!
She is adorable nontheless. I would love to donate some of our leftover candy but I think HB and I will take care of it during football today :)
She does make an excellent Snow White. But what would you have done if you did not have that costume hidden away?
aw, she's a cutie! you're a good mom for having the back-up costume.
Love the pumpkins, but I'm so not sharing candy. It's the one thing in this house that it's every person for themselves. (and I get to stay up later too!)
I though She Who Is Adorable didn't like candy. I'm confused.
What a pretty Snow White she is!
And yes. I'm jealous I didn't think of that strategy too. ;)
those little disney dresses are too cute! pretty little princess. BUT HEY, at least you got the Halloween Portrait done of Minnie Mouse!
@Karen--Nobody said she actually ate the candy. She doesn't want to share it, but she also doesn't want to eat it. Can we say, "Only child syndrome?"
Oddly, I think on Thursday I told you she'd go as Snow White....hmmm...you know on the phone!
Sounds like typical 3 year old behavior. Next year will be better!
Well, she DOES make a beautiful Snow White. And KUDOS to you for having that costume on hand in case of a Halloween-with-a-toddler emergency!!
Isaac did the same thing about her age. He was Batman for half the night and then a knight and then both. Luckily both costumes worked with black sweats underneath, so it worked out. Stinkers.
Evie apparently LOVES strangers because she was willing to trick or treat well after the rest of us were ready to pack it in. No kidding, I think she got her weight in candy this year (it helps when the old people slip you double for grinning and saying
TEEEEEEET!!! at the door).
Things I need to learn from Alexis: how to score candy without leaving your house.
Things I need to learn from Burgh Baby Mom: How to be smart enough to have a back up costume.
The Howler's first Trick-or-Treat Halloween was spent with:
The Howler shrieking and crying hysterically because she was wearing a costume (it was the most adorable felt-and-hot glue gun ladybug) and me, taking no less than 2 dozen photos of her shrieking and crying.
Good times.
The Howler also likes to have a *backup* costume, but hers is always a witch.
I love that kid.
I just discovered that Granilla THREW AWAY all the perfectly delicious and edible Nestle Crunch mini snack bars we had leftover. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?!
All of Granilla's insanity aside, I love A's method with the M&Ms. That's totally hawt.
She's the cutest Snow White I've ever seen. I'm glad she changed her mind. But I loved the Minnie Mouse outfit too. She's a hilarious kid.
She makes as beautiful a snow white as she did a minnie mouse! I feel the same way about the candy, which is why we always buy extra so we have some for ourselves. hehe.
great ideas from Alexis all the way around!
That Alexis has great ideas! I love the scary looking pumpkin.
Hahahahah!!!!! Love her personality. My son HATED trick or treating the first 2 years. But I made him do it b/c I wanted the candy. Hee hee. If we handed out candy (we don't b/c there are no kids on our block) I could TOTALLY envision him "doing an Alexis!" See, she even gets her own phrase.
I knew you had something spectacular planned for that Dora doll you found...
I'm not crazy about giving away all the candy either. I always make sure to give out something that I don't particularly care for, that way? No great loss...
LOL That is hilarious. My toddler is the same way, running and screaming whenever a stranger comes near her/looks at her. Literally. Although for some reason she was all about trick or treating! She was ready to walk right in their houses! I was so surprised! It was very very entertaining.
The second house we went to had dogs who came to the door, so that was the deal closer right there (she LOVES dogs), and then she realized they were putting candy in her little pumpkin bucket. That was it. She was all for it and even singing little songs in between the houses.
She then proceeded to try and give out her own candy to the trick or treaters who came to our house, after we got home. Too funny!
Your daughter looked adorable in her snow white costume. Mine went as a penguin. She loves happy feet!
Smart AND adorable? How lucky can you get??
