Shady Things Going on in that Building
Friday night we met some friends for dinner. Since Mr. Husband works near the restaurant that was selected, Alexis and I drove down together and met him there. As us girls were leaving, Alexis gazed at the fluffy white snowflakes as they gently fell to the ground, and suddenly noticed the very large stone building at the end of the road. "What's that?" she asked.
"A church," I told her.
"I wanna go in," she replied.
It wasn't exactly the right moment for us to go charging into a random church, so I told her we could drive by it and look at it more closely, but that we didn't have time to go in.
So we drove past it, Alexis wide-eyed as she stared at the nearly 200-year old castle-like structure. "I wanna go in," she repeated.
"Hon, we can't go in now. Do you want to go look at a different church, though?" I asked.
"Yeah," the Toddler replied.
So we wandered the few miles from the Strip District towards downtown and drove past a few more old churches.
"I wanna go in," Alexis reiterated each time we drove past a new one.
Intrigued, I finally asked, "Why do you want to go in?"
Alexis, in her infinite Toddler wisdom, explained, "I wanna see Sleeping Cutey and her dad."
(She calls Sleeping Beauty "Sleeping Cutey" and is convinced that the Prince is Sleeping Cutey's dad. I haven't quite decided if that is a good thing or a really bad thing.)
So, let's review: I spent a good portion of my Friday night touring churches in search of a Disney Princess and her "Dad." If that isn't the most twisted way I've ever kicked off a weekend, I don't know what is.

awwwwww, sleeping cutie?
That is so damn cute I could vomit.
That is a compliment in my twisted world.
I was waiting for her to say Sleeping Cutie and the Baby Jesus.
I think that's adorable!!
Violet thinks all the pretty, gothic churches around here are Cinderella's castle!
Does this make us bad parents?
@Julie O'C--Nope! It just makes us fortunate to live somewhere with crazy cool architecture.
How cute is that?!
Could your kid be any cuter?! Seriously . . . Sleeping Cutie?!
(I thought for just a minute that maybe she had seen a nativity set and thought Mary was Sleeping Beauty, but I could see how the architecture of an old church could look like a castle - smart girl!)
LOL... how life has changed, no? Sleeping Cutey is the cutest thing I have ever heard.
That is totally adorable. I just love it. :)
Sleeping Cutey has got to be the most adorable thing I've ever heard!
And her Dad, isn't that against the law in 50 states? :)
I think I barfed a little in my mouth for the Bibbi Boppidy cuteness. Me thinks you need to give her a trip to the magical palace in Florida for her upcoming birthday....
Too.stinkin'.cute.
As someone who wasn't brought up Catholic, I was amazed to find out a while back that Catholic churches are always open. (Or at least the one I frequently wandered into was) If she thinks the outside is cool, imagine what she would do looking at those huge stained glass windows!
She thinks that churches are castles...that's cute!
I think that's adorable!
Sleeping Cutey! Your kid is brilliant. She certainly keeps you in blogging fodder! ;-)
and on the 'dad' tip. Princess still thinks she's gonna marry hers when she grows up. LOL.
Aivlene thinks the cathedral at St.Vincents college is a castle and calls it, "Her Castle". We drive by it all the time.
Sleeping Cutey!? So cute, I love it!
I wish I lived near Sleeping Cutie's church, instead of ones which look like warehouses. Your toddler is one cute cookie!
thats hilarious. i'm telling a story on my site tonight that my cousin just told me about her son. in a nutshell....their pastor sent them a very religious looking christmas card with baby jesus on it....her son said "geez, that isn't very christmasy". LOL. she said they have to listen to LINUS.......again.
Just wait til she starts thinking she's going to let down her hair for some handsome prince to climb up. Fairy tales are scary things, I tell ya. At least for girls.
My boys? All they took from them was the part where they got to ride in on cool horses and slay dragons. ;)
Sleeping Cutie and her dad? Okay, that's twisted and hysterical. I love it.
Awww! Sleeping Cutey and her Dad! I guess in her eyes that's the man she would want to rescue her!
I can't believe I didn't know there was a famous BlogHer blogger in Pittsburgh! I'm adding you to my reader right now. :)
Is that Strawberry Way in the post above? Not important...just sight seeing through your photos.
There were so many churches I wanted to go in and wander around in Pgh. So many cool buildings! I worked on a crisis counseling team after the flood in 'aught4 (or was it '05?) and spent time in Sharpsburg. There was the coolest old catholic church that I wanted so badly to see inside but learned it was only opened for funerals and things. So sad.
i was thinking that she was looking for a nativity scene, but sleeping cutey is just too adorable for words.
I LOVE it - religion, sex, and incest all in one dose. HAWT!
Now that is just a weird combination. That child is really going to be warped.
I cannot wait until she's a teenager. With that mind she's going to definitely give you a run for your money! LOL!
