All Around Crazy

Check out this Christmas Crazy (not my house):

LOVE IT! It's like Clark Griswold got down with some gumdrop-colored rope lights, if only he knew how to actually run a lot of lights without blacking out the neighborhood. FYI, Pittsburgh peeps, the house is just off McKnight Road, up behind the Bravo.

As for our lights, well they decided to go on a little "vacation" today. We're working to fix the long string of sparklies that decided it was time for a long rest, and hopefully I'll be able to post photos tomorrow. In the meantime, keep the Christmas Crazy coming!

Me thinks there IS such a thing as too much of a good thing. :) I LOVE Christmas lights but it'd be nice to see this many spread over a few houses rather than just 1.

Sorry I'm late. Is this the one where the new neighbor was horrified by the display? Gotta see it...

@Uncle Crappy-Yup, that's the one. Last year there was all sorts of drama. It's pretty impressive in person.

Wow, sorry I'm a bit late! What fun!

Oh my!!
And I thought THIS in my neighborhood was a lot.
Merry Christmas! :)

That is all kinds of crazy. Lovin' the festive header.
I have a couple of cookies and the gingerbread houses up today, but I don't know if it qualifies as Christmas Crazy.

Thanks for the heads up - we are staying on McKnight so we'll have to drive the girls up to see that house. Although the burgh roads are not meant for slow moving, light viewing folks. LOL

I don't have a plethora of Christmas crazy, been a difficult week. But these shots are great... how do they get any sleep ;)?

My biggest problem with that display off McKnight is that the dude has a collection tin out to help defray the cost of his electric bill. Now, if you're going to go bucknutty on the lights, you need to pony up your own dough for the electric bill. Don't solicit donations.

Plus, apparently that guy is a total wanker to every single one of his neighbors. I think he does the light display out of sheer spite.

excess much? (why am i not surprised that there was a hummer in one of those photos??)

December 21, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterhello haha narf

Wow, that is awesome!!!

December 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKim

@Anonymous--Obviously, I can't speak to whether that guy is the Patron Saint of Awesome and Considerate Neighbors, but I can say that is a HELLA lot of work to do every year just out of spite. We have a neighbor that tries to say we do ours just to piss him off, and even in my most super-grudge holding pisstacular mood, I couldn't pull off half of that just to irritate him.

Also, how do you feel about Hartwood Acres "voluntary $12 donation?"

December 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBurgh Baby

Wow that's a little over the top! I'd like to see it in person. And umm do they just leave their cars parked till after Christmas?

We are driving two and a half hours to see lights tonight because there's nothing great to see in the middle of nowhere Missouri!

wow. just wow.

looking forward to seeing YOUR display, though...

December 21, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterthe planet of janet

WOW!!! That's a LOT of lights! I can't imagine his power bill.

Insane! Seriously, they decorated their Hummer? And here I get irritated with the stupid fools that put reindeer antlers on their car windows.

December 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

My husband would probably love it. He adds more & more lights every year...

Part of what is collected also goes to a local charity. Some of it defrays electric costs, but he also makes a decent donation as well. If you read the sign that's on the tin, it says which one.

Thought of your recent entries the other day -- the first time was because on Sunday, the Trib had a story about kids that are terrified of Santa (and a billion pictures of kids crying on Santa's lap). The second came in from the Valley News Dispatch (today's edition), in which a guy not only obnoxiously decorates (48K lights) but synced up music and broadcasts to the folks who drive by. And not only that, he turns the furnace off in order to run the display! I think that qualifies as "crazy!"

December 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterThree

@Three--We don't turn off our furnace, but it certainly doesn't run in December. The warmth from all the lights on the trees seriously keeps our downstairs a good 10 degrees warmer than the rest of the house.

I LURVE this SO much.

On the way to my Grandma's house in East Texas there are TWO different places where people have taken a few miles of nothingness and turned it into a drive-thru light display.

It's amazing. We used to drive through at least one a year.

That is AWESOME! I love over the top lights!
