Yes, We Have Two Dogs

For whatever random reason, apparently there's at least one of you that thinks the poofball otherwise known as Jasmine doesn't get enough attention up in this joint. There are a few valid reasons why she gets less press than the pain in my hiney known as Meg:

1. She looks like a mop. I can photograph her up close, from far away, her right side, her left side, her backside. It won't matter. She'll still look like a mop.

2. She has never once farted in such a way as to cause me to nearly throw up from the stench. That kind of thing tends to get my attention.

3. She's the GOOD dog. You know how when people have a whole bunch of kids the good one gets forgotten all the time? Yeah, it's like that.

EXCEPT, she has decided to go all renegade on me and has turned into a ROYAL pain in the hiney. Apparently Meg told her about the time Mr. Husband put a turkey carcass in the trash. Ever since the story got out, Jasmine has been checking the garbage every.single.day to see what has been left in there. While no turkeys have recently died at the hands of my husband, there has been the occasional scrap of food. You know, because that's where you put the food that winds up on the floor when the Toddler is using it to practice free throws in the living room. Using the TV as the basket. And making more than a few shots. Why yes Bert, Ernie does have a little schmutz between his teeth.

Anyway, there has been enough food for Jasmine to decide to make trash rummaging her new hobby. I have spent the past month trying to retrain her that it isn't a good idea to go dumpster diving. Yesterday, I gave up. Peeps, the cheapest woman on Planet Earth spent $70 (you must read that using your Dr. Evil voice, btw) yesterday on a trash can that the stupid dog can't get into. I want to kill her. Or use her as a mop for the rest of her life.

Here she is channeling her inner mopness:

And proving that Mr. Canon rocks the action shot:

She is seriously the prettiest mop I've ever seen . . .

Is she running to the trash can???

OMG. Don't even get me started on garbage cans. I wrote a rant a while back on how f-ing expensive they are. Drove me insane trying to find a decent one!

She looks like a shih-tzu, maybe? My parents' favorite dog breed - they had one for FOREVER. Poor dog . .. she was built so low to the ground that she would pick up everything outside just like a dust mop and drag it in. But she was extremely well-behaved, didn't smell bad (by dog standards), and never barked!

Oh, she's so pretty...do you have to vacuum extra often? I hate to admit this, but I spent over $100 on ours...behold, the most expensive GARBAGE can ever...http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=105720

We shave our dog to prevent her from becoming a mop. Maybe in J's future? And, I love my hoity trashcan, too. It's perty. I hope Ms. Cheap can deal with having a great can?

Does the can work?!?! I must know this!

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTootsie Farklepants

That is one hairy dog you've got on your heands!
We bought a new garbage can this weekend too.......I broke the old one! Luckily my dog doesn't go dumpster diving. He does steal food from the toddler though!

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMary

Dumpster Diving Dogs suck. And all that hair scares me. We're debating on whether or not to get Becky that Maltese. I know in our home the mop would be a dirty one.

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

Your dog is the prettiest mop I've seen in quite some time...do you have to brush her all the time? She looks a little more high maintenance then I can personally handle.

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCass

Jasmine should get a bath once a month (it's more like every other month these days) and she gets combed MAYBE once per week for about five minutes. She doesn't shed at all. Really. She's far less maintenance than her stinky sister. And Meg. ;-)

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBurgh Baby's Mom

Okay. You've got me at the no shedding thing. That's why the cats often get shaved (yes, I'm mean). I wonder if you could dread her fur, and then you'd never have to brush it . . . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Puli_600.jpg

that is a great action shot--I can picture it now, Jasmine is off and running....the break into the new trash can.

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterPam

Oh but she is such a cute mop! I bought a fancy trash can for the same reason. Damn dogs!

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

Dumpster Diving is Evie's new trick. I don't think she would like being used for a mop, but I might be writing you very soon about what trash can to buy...

And yea, Mr. Canon ROCKS the moppy action shot!!

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCecily R

a dog not farting gets your attention...

I'm gonna shut up now.

meow.

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered Commentersauerkraut

Love those pics of her. The mop in action is especially cute!

I can so relate about having to buy expensive trash cans to keep the dog out. Our dog will get into any trashcan (because tissues are especially yummy!), so we've got all sorts of contraptions to keep her out of the trash cans. I so love the decor of having trash cans on top of the tables. Lovely.

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered Commentercaramama

Apparently the good dogs (just like the good kids!) have a little rebel inside. And what, pray tell, does a $70 trashcan do, exactly?

That last shot is fantastic!

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMadame Queen

She is adorable. Just feed her the table scraps. Then maybe she won't be so curious as to what good things you are tossing out.

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMarmarbug

aw, she's such a SWEET-looking dumpster diver!

but, trust me, that's a better habit than the rat dogs have -- which is crapping in the house.

grrrrrrrr

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterthe planet of janet

Ack! She's a flying mop!

Soapie's been getting into the trash too... she ate... are you ready? - a WHOLE plastic bag. Yea, like blue bag from the grocery store. It turned into this weird condensed pellet when it... ya know... came out... along with the 3 whole baby carrots and a pork chop. Um, maybe I need to get one of those cans too.

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAutumn

we spent $90 at Lowes for this one: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=106678&RN=1020
but only because we wanted a pretty trash can (and by "we" I mean "Justin").
I would like to see what $70 got you? Is she actually tall enough to moleste the kitchen trash can? Or is this a smaller accesory trash? Ginger likes to go digging in our bathroom trash for snot-rags. I stopped that by leaving a ton of stuff in front of the can, so now it's walled-in by the vanity, the toilet, the back wall, and a pile of crap that used to be in the vanity (WAHL clippers, paraffin bath, drano bottle).

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterColleen

she's so pretty!

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterLainey-Paney

Why yes, Mr. Canon DOES rock the action shot! She is so cute; not STINKIN' CUTE, mind you, but cute ;)!!! And, not cute like Meg...I could go on. And on. But I won't. I really want a pic of this super trash can of yours. And the STINKIN' CUTE one...where's the pic of her. I NEED my daily fix...

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterkim-d

I'm more of a Swiffer person myself.

And underwear eating dogs. That's more me.

But I guess if you're going to go for garbage diving mops, Jasmine pretty damn cute. Although I worry about her having zero visibility through all of her hair. Was her father Cousin Itt maybe?

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCatwoman

Ah, the trash raider. We have some of those (as well as many other naughty behaviors).

And Mr. Canon DOES rock the action shot. Our Mr. Panasonic? Yeah....close-ups of tongues, noses, eyeballs, and Kerry's butt (she thinks everythign in the world is for scratching her behind). We do not rock the action shot!

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBecoming Mommy

oh wow...read more of your nots.
Meg is seriously LOW maintenance.

Kerry needs a bath once a week (or her fur smells like everything she has stood in the vicinity of all at once), a brush every day (or she's a giant matt), and a clip every month and a half (or she looks like a Puli).

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBecoming Mommy

I want to kill my dog too, it is okay. Lol!!

I have to start my story by saying, I chose to get a dog over getting the 24 in iMac [I ended up getting the 20 in so that I COULD get the dog]...what a HUGE mistake that is turning out to be! Lol. When I brought my dog home, he was sweet, and cute, and good, and was turning out to be REALLY easy to housebreak. But then, I had to go to work one night, and he was left in his kennel a little longer than he should have been, and he pottied in it. Now, it is just turning into something that is damn near impossible to break. I have tried everything. I let him out at the exact same time everyday, I have moved it from every two hours down to every hour...I don't know what to do. :( I don't want to get rid of him, but grr! Lol!! It's driving me nuts. I may have to give Caesar Milan a call!

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered Commentermeagan@meplusthree.us

She is a gorgeous dog!

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTammy

NO!NO!NO! Return it, and get your butt to Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Remember the post I wrote about the $60 garbage can that Dylan opened when we got it home? Well, we took that one back and bought one with a lock that rocks! I can't remember what we paid, but it definately wasn't $70!

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJen

Yeah. Our "good" dog swiped half a peanut butter sandwich off my plate yesterday and ran away. Still can't beat our other dog who ate 8 (!) Poptarts once. Ugh...

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRebecca

Jasmine is a pretty mop.

I also spent a ton of money on a fancy-schmancy trash can - because once my dear little firstborn child learned to walk, she wanted to explore EVERYTHING. The trash was among her favorite treasure troves. That and the knife drawer.

April 21, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSarah O.

funny!

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBirdie

Ugh, I hate it when they dumpster dive1 So sorry to hear about having to buy a trash can. She is beauty though! I love the action shot :)

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSandy C.

Oh she's gorgeous! I want one! Does she shed, or does her hair just keep getting longer?

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterFlea

oof. cute puppy.

April 22, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterkatydidnot

Awesome action shot!

April 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSusie

How cute!!! Ya have to give her more positive attention, or she'll turn into a demon all the time. Can't say I blame her for the rummaging.

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterShellie

She DOES NOT look like a mop!!

If you keep having problems with her digging in any trash can try putting some amonia in the bottom of the can. The smell won't bother you too much but it might be offensive enough to the dog to make her leave it alone. It worked for one of our dogs. The other one is just stupid. ;o)
