Thai Her Up

The Toddler likes Thai food. I mean, she really likes Thai food. I wouldn't call it her favorite, but that's only because she would then immediately start refusing to eat it. It's a good thing she likes Thai, because the grown-ups in the house like Thai, too. We eat it at least once a month and I would hate to have to be that annoying lady that orders French fries in a Thai restaurant. Honestly, I'd probably make her suffer and starve before I stooped to that level.

Anyway, she loves noodles, she enjoys vegetables (especially the miniature corn), she adores rice, and the little woman never met an eggroll she didn't want to demolish.

And I do mean DEMOLISH.

In direct violation of the Laws of Eggrolls, the child pulverizes eggrolls. She rips them to shreds, tossing aside bits and pieces in her quest to inhale her favorite part.

The cabbage.

She doesn't eat the outer fried yummy perfection.

I know! That is in direct violation of Eggroll Law Number 2 which specifically states that you should never deface the eggroll by eating only the inside. (Law Number 1 states though shalt enjoy the outer fried yummy perfection.)

I know.

I have reported her to the Eggroll Police, but they must have a backlog going on because they haven't responded yet.

Yes, I would allow the Eggroll Police to imprison my child for her crimes.

If she would let ME eat the outer fried yummy perfection, then I might consider protecting her. She refuses. "MINE!" "DON TOSH!" It brings a tear to my eyes to see all that outer fried yummy perfection go to waste.

Just thinking about it upsets me.

Poor, poor eggroll.

Oh I would totally turn her cute little butt in! I love the fried outer goodness. MMMMMMM.

But in the long run, won't she be more healthy for skipping the fried outer part? I would say the things you do but in my secret heart I would know that it was jealousy that she can resist while I can't. We haven't been out for Thai for a long time. One of my daughter's favourite foods is madras chicken curry but I make that at home with a spice paste. Yum. It's been a while, though ...

Stopping by to say hello from a fellow 'Burgher.

Poor eggroll, indeed. I hope you rescue the outer wrapper and down it yourself!

I LOOOOOVE Thai food! So do my kids, come to think of it.

I always exposed my kids to all kinds of food, and as adults they are willing to try anything at least once (and they always eat their greens!)

Funny story. My son wanted some red pepper to go onto his kanom jeeb not long after he first began enjoying Thai food. I think he was 11 or so. Well, he really dumped it on there and popped one dumpling into his mouth. We (and the manager/waitress) held our collective breath. Soon, his face turned beet red and broke out in a sweat. He spat the dumpling onto his plate and grabbed his water. I waved to the waitress and asked for a Thai iced tea. He scarfed down all the water on the table and the tea, as well. It took a while for us to stop giggling, and he has never forgotten it. Now? He loves spicy food. I guess after that incident, nothing was too hot for him!

Peace - D

Mmmm, eggrolls! Love the DONT TOSH!! lol!

April 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMelissa

Yum, eggrolls. Darn you, now you've got me thinking of food at this hour of the night.

You've got one seriously weird child on your hands, and it's a good thing. We're living in the land of applesacue and hot dogs and quite frankly I'm getting tired of it. Sadly, he's not.

April 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

Lucky you that she eats! My 3 year old survives on kit kats, smarties, chocolate milk, coke (I know! Bad parenting!), sour cream and cheese and crackers. Oh, and rainbow chips ahoy. That's about the extent of her food intake.

The don tosh is classic.

April 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterEmma in Canada

I'm impressed. And, is she of the not eat meat persuasion, too? Or is that just you & the dare? I love me some Alexis.

That's the best part of the egg roll! Cute pic:)

April 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterNap Warden

Aww, so health conscious already! That's great :) Soon she'll be asking for her food to be baked, not fried ;)

April 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSandy C.

my children barely tolerate grilled cheese. terribly immature pallettes i'm afraid.

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterkatydidnot

Thai food is great. I agree about the eggrolls, she should pay the price for desecrating the outer fired yumminess.

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterShellie

We'd be a perfect pair 'cause I'd gobble up that outer fried goodess for her.

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCheri

Oooh Thai food is yummy! So funny that she likes the cabbage more that the perfect crusty part... yeah, that's bad really.

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterHey it's Amy Shipp

The only food I have ever met that I didn't like was saurkrout. With a name like that... lol

I also don't like people (hubby!) touching my food on my plate.

Too bad it would cause a scene in the restaurant to just eat the fried goodness . . . . well, actually, I'd probably just ignore the tantrum and eat the fried goodness anyway for fear of being picked up by the eggroll police myself.

Great! Now I'm craving an egg roll and it's 8:27 in the morning. Thanks! :)

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMadame Queen

Thai food is my favorite too and Charlotte loves the noodles. But she refuses to eat with anything other than chopsticks if that's what were using. SO I had to buy her baby training chopsticks, which she uses. Of course, we then have to call in a Hazmat team to clean up the kitchen.

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAndreAnna

I'm all about the outside. I can't lie. I DEMOLISH Them too . . . for the outer goodness. I can't believe she won't give you the outside . . . Ugh. Poor eggroll . . . maybe one day she'll appreciate its goodness.

Lovin that pic

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterLaskiGal

who couldn't love thai? all of that curry... MMMM...

But I confess, it's about the inside for me. I feel her, I get it...
I eat the entire package though (please don't call the eggroll police on me too... Something tells me they AREN'T busy here... I am about to blog about that, in fact...)

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMisty

Mmmm. Thai...grrr...gle
She has good taste!
Except for that sad, sad waste of greasy flakiness that is the outside of an eggroll. She will have to live and learn on that one. :-)

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterderekandmandy

Does she just sit still and look at the flowers a lot, because that blows my mind! You get so many opportunitites for great shots!

I don't know if I've ever had Thai food! Can you believe it?

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJen

It was nice of you to take a pic of she and the pup at the memorial service for the crispy, fried outer goodness.

I had eggrolls last night...every, last beautiful crumb of them. You may now live vicariously though me.... as I am here for you, my friend.

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAutumn

that's funny...Gavin's the exact opposite and I usually (and gleefully) get to eat the remaining 2/3 of his eggroll.

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterColleen

My Favorite? When my kids are eating the noodles, and they suck them up as they slat across their face.

It make me crack up every time. Some days, when I need a REALLY good laugh, I will give them extra noodles just to see this more often!

Thanks for the laugh!

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterVal

BB prefers Mexican. And now I'm starving.

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterFireMom

Yummmmmmm. Egg rolls.

Egg Roll police...you'd think, since I don't know anyone who violates Eggroll Law Number 2 that they would have been on your doorstep in five minutes or less. I mean, how busy can they be?

I'm still laughing over the DON TOSH...I can HEAR the kid saying it!!

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCecily R

My kid is the same way - LOVES her eggrolls. She will eat the outside if I feed it to her but left to her own devices she also picks out the cabbage and eats that. I'm so glad that I haven't become a parent asking for chicken nuggets at ethnic restaurants - so far she will eat something everywhere we've been. I think her favorite is middle eastern - she loves tabolueh (makes for ugly diapers though). And in a pinch, I keep goldfish in my purse. Hehe.

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMichelle Smiles

say it ain't so!!!

the fried yummy perfection is the food of the gods! one must NOT waste it!

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterthe planet of janet

Dude... I am suddenly so hungry for egg rolls.

:)

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterOHmommy

I'm so impressed that she likes Thai food! We're filipino so our food is very similar but my kids aren't so into the noodles. Eggrolls you can't go wrong with. But MY babies love the outside, not so much the inside. They should team up with Alexis and all will be right with the world. =)

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSherE1

I love stories about what Alexis is eating. She's awesome! I'm going to have to try my little one with Thai food. She loves the packaged lo mein that we buy. I'll bet she'll love Thai.

BTW, I just wanted to warn you that Alexis must have left your mop outside. I hope it didn't get ruined! ;-)

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered Commentercaramama

Gasp! What is wrong with her??? Cabbage over fried goodness, oh no, no, no. Are you sure you didn't drop her on her head during her infant days?

And look at the mop! Making the blog for the second time in what? a week? Go mop!

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCatwoman

"MINE DON TOSH"...bwahahaha!...I've been known to utter those words myself if I see a stray fork wandering towards my plate. And it is exceedingly clear to me that she got to the Eggroll Police before you. May as well get used to it, cause it'll probably be happening a lot over the years.

Man, I love that kid!!! What spunk; what style; what personality! :)

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterkim-d

I can't even say the words "Thai food" without my mouth starting to water. Unfortunately, in my red-neck part of the woods, there is NO Thai to be found.

But not eating the crunchy fried part of the eggroll? That is pure craziness!!!

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterIrene

My daughter Allie loves baby corn and cabbage. and Thai food. I am glad she isn't the french fries kid. Not that there is anything wrong with french fry kids, but it sure makes my life easier that she'll eat whatever we give her.

My kids LOVE green beans, lol! Glad they don't hate them. I have no problem getting them to eat anything really.

And I can't believe that poor eggroll. :( Lol!!

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered Commentermeagan@meplusthree.us

I so can't wait to meet her!!

2 DAYS!!

I can't stand the inside of the egg roll so she and I would get along--if only she would let me tosh it ;)

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterPam

Poor, poor eggroll. Good girl, though, eating her vegetables like that.

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterFlea

i LOVE thai food as well. We haven't tried that with Boog yet but he's starting to get a little picky.

Man that yummy fried part is the only way you can even get me to eat cabbage.

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterImpostorMom

I, too, demolish an egg roll and eat the guts of it. But...BUT....before you call the EP on me, I THEN eat the fried outer goodness.

Yes. I know. Strange.

Great picture. Just one question: is the dog's face facing the camera or her butt?

Ha!! I kid!! I know it's her butt :)

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKellie

Thanks for making me totally hungry for Thai at 9:30 at night.

My son likes it too and the people who own the restaurant we go to dote on him every time. I think that's part of the reason he likes it!

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterElaine A.

She's got great taste in food!

April 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterVerWaynia

Remind her of her "no touchy my eggroll" policy the next time she wants your soup.

April 25, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTootsie Farklepants

I love how once a food is pronounced a "favorite" my mom, it will no longer be eaten!!!

April 25, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCC

loved it - she's so cute...you're so funny...great combo.
