More About the Secret Agent Family in the Burgh

I wasn't able to do a proper post regaling the majesty that is Secret Agent Mama's kids last night as I was knee deep in the crud that Mr. Husband was piling up all over the place as he dug himself into the world's deepest hole. As his parents have been known to read this here blog, I won't completely humiliate him, but rather just say that he found himself quite the bulldozer last night and dug real deep. The fact that he was a putz and didn't even manage to call his Dad to say happy birthday was the LEAST of his transgressions.

Anyway.

Happy birthday, Dad! Love ya!

Ahem.

A few weeks ago Mishi emailed me to let me know that during her grand voyage, she would be passing through Pittsburgh and did I want to meet for a few minutes over coffee or something? I am no fool, so of course I was all Where? When? Yes, Please! I gave her my top secret cell phone number (seriously, like 10 people have that number which is good because I never answer it) and anticipated her call yesterday afternoon.

When she did call, it was to say she thought she was perhaps an hour away. Or at least, that's what I think she said because there was much noise and giggling and goofiness going on in the background. You see, she and four, yes FOUR, kids had been in the car for about 13 hours at that point. As we made our arrangements to go the route of McDonald's (so that the kids could run around and rediscover the joys of using their legs for something other than kicking the seat in front of them), I admittedly thought to myself that Mishi must be a little bit coo-coo. In my defense, who in their right mind spends over 17 hours in the car with four kids INTENTIONALLY? Exactly.

So Alexis and I pulled into McDonald's and were greeted by, quite simply, some of the most outgoing, sweet, and polite kids I've ever met. I think we've already established that I am a crazed lunatic about manners, so it was a joy to meet kids who all said 'please' and 'thank you' and were nice to one another. Seriously. I think those kids actually like each other. And the polite? Oh, it made me swoon. I very nearly fell over when I heard one of them refer to Mishi as Ma'am. That is the stuff dreams are made of right there.

Of course, she may have paid them all to pretend to be good kids, or maybe it was all part of some crazy version of Punk'd where kids act wonderfully while cameras capture people's reactions of awe and amazement. If so, Ashton is gonna' love some of my facial expressions.

After not nearly long enough, the Secret Agent Family had to pile back in their car so they could complete the last four hours of their journey. It was most certainly fun to meet them.

Thanks, Mishi, for stopping in my 'hood!

How great to met up like that. Wow- polite kids.....that is awesome. So glad everyone had fun. I can barley handle 15 minutes in the car with my 2 kids....much less all those hours with all those kids. Bless that woman!

That is so cool! I am a stickler for polite kids too, and good grammar.
My Kid is only 3 1/2 and he has been ordering his own food and drink at resturants for a while always with a please and thank you. I thought you would appreciate that. :)

If I had your cell phone number, I'd totally prank call you.

Also, I want to know what hubby did. Just call him "Bob the Builder."

I'm still jealous of everyone who gets to meet blog friends in real life. And blog friends with polite kids - what could be better?!?!

That is so cool that you had a chance to meet up . . . these meetings make it all so REAL!

And her kiddos! Wow! Impressive. The drive . . . I will never, ever complain about having ONE in the car for 6 hours ever, ever again . . .

I'll just have to take your for it on the polite-ness, but I sure can see for myself ALL of the cute-ness possessed by those four; good hair, too :)! AND it appears they passed The Toddler Test. I love the smile on her face in the last picture. It makes me smile just looking at it...

What fun! I wanna meet you two at McDonald's, too; I could bring my nine grandkids. BWAHAHA. But, truly, if you like nice kids with good manners, you would like all nine of them--they never fail to make me proud that way!

Good times :)...

So jealous that you met her. So jealous that her kids are polite. Ugh. Not. fair.

April 27, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterHRH

How cool! I am in awe of the fact that she first off, HAS four kids, secondly went that far in the car with them, and thirdly raised them to be that polite! (Applause for her) I taught a Southern kid once who called everyone Sir and Ma'am, and it really freaked me out. Glad you all had fun!

how fun. polite kids? nuh uh.

If ya'll were on http://twitter.com/burghbaby" REL="nofollow">twitter, you would know what Mr. Husband did. At least, you would know the part up until about 10:00. What happened at 3:00 am is still undocumented because I can't type when my brain is on fire and my poor widdle brain spontaneously combusts every time I think about it.

Oh no! I hope the Hubby is a better boy today!

So cool that you got to meet a blog friend in person :)

Hey, that's an idea! I could pay my kids to be nice and polite in front of strangers. hmmmmmmm??? Nah, they're usually polite so why waste my money. LOL

April 28, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTammy

I believe that her kids are that kind of good. It's my experience that home schooled kids are the best mannered. And besides, you couldn't pay kids enough money to be good after sitting that long in a vehicle.

So glad you had a great time. And I'm all shades of jealous that I didn't get to meet her as well.

Sounds like Mr. Husband was naughty.
Sounds like fun at McD's. Bean is in love with that place.

April 28, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMarmarbug

How fun is that!! I so love when kids are polite.... crazy that it's such an amazing concept to us, isn't it?? I get even happier when someone tells me that's MY kid - lol!

Sounds like you guys had a great time!

April 28, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAutumn

ooohhhh...you had me at "polite children". Gavin does alright, but he often gets so shy around others that he forgets his pleases and thank-yous. Thankfully he's cute and is OBVIOUSLY shy (like hides his face, blushes, looks down, etc....we're uh, workin' on that, too).
and um, I read some Twitter and it was pretty funny! Don't tell Hot Mama...she just needs to get twitterfied and see for herself (although I won't mention that she won't be able to see past tweets you've done before she's joined...).

April 28, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterColleen

I love hearing about bloggers meeting in real life, that is just so cool! And I want to meet SOMEONE!
As for the car trip with four kids. Me, I do that too. And let me tell you that it is so much easier to drive with four alone than it is to fly with four alone. Road trips are the best! And there's a possibility I'm driving in your neck of the woods this summer, so if you're up for another Mickey D's playdate, let me know!

April 28, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

Good for her! Our Gen has some pretty great manners when she is around others...

April 28, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMisty

I drive 5 hours to my mom's and feel coo-coo! I can't imagine 17!

I did join Twitter but haven't looked at it again to figure out what the heck to do.

April 28, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBren

How incredibly fun!!!!

April 28, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKaren C.

17 hours on the road with FOUR kids? Seriously, why hasn't Mishi ever taken pics of her cape? She is my hero :)

Sounds like you all had a great time! I may have to beg you for those digits if we ever drive through the Burgh!

April 28, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSandy C.

That sounds like a great time! How fun to be able to meet up. Love the pics you posted of them all playing around. :-)

April 28, 2008 | Unregistered Commentercaramama

7 hours with 2 kids was bad enough, she's just insane! LOL!
She sounds like a gem!

April 28, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJenty

Sounds like fun!! i would love to come to pittsburg and go to mcdonald's with you! :)

i too love a polite child. there is nothing like them!

April 28, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterkay

That was just the best read. I hardly ever read comments before mine, but I read all these comments and am just so grinning!

M, it was a pleasure to meet you guys and I can't wait to make that a usual occurrence. Once in a while you will see one of the kids fall out with a case of "the stupid", but for the most part they are awesome kids. I am blessed.

Thanks for the great pics, too!!

O.k., I am WAY behind!

But I'm just reading this. Do you know that Mishi lives an hour and a half from here -- and we've not met yet.
