Random and Stuff

- I have a new goal in life. I would like to go an entire week without something bizarre happening with the Fish Tank of Horrors. When I was cleaning it earlier today, I pulled out a rock and took it into the bathroom to do a little extra scrubbing. I failed to notice the Ghost Crab hanging out in a nook of the rock right up until he (she? it?) suddenly lunged out of the nook right at my face. I jumped out of my skin and my innards ran out of the house and down the street, shrieking the whole way. Mr. Husband is still laughing at me and the neighbors now KNOW I am a freak. If they recognized me without my face, that is.

- A couple people asked how I keep managing to get tickets to the Penguins games. It's simple, really. TicketMaster.com is scared of me. If I sit down at the appointed hour for any sort of event, there is a 90% chance that I will walk away with a pair of tickets. The other 10% of the time I beat TicketMaster to a bloody pulp, and that seems to help my future chances of scoring tickets. I've had the magic touch my entire life, which explains how it is that I managed to see New Kids on the Block and Nelson in concert back in the day. For the record, North Dakota isn't exactly the land of quality concert choices. In fact, I had to drive six hours to Minneapolis to see New Kids. Look how nice I am, giving you oodles of reasons to mock me. Enjoy.

- If you haven't started using Twitter yet, you are SO missing out. AFF tells the tale here.

- This thing where the Toddler hauls her doll Baby Shell all over creation is kind of cute right now, but I smell a pain in the arse on the horizon. Methinks I might just have to go buy a twin, just to be safe.

The Twitter Butt wars killed me!

Um, I would go out and purchase back up doll right away. The HELL I put my parent through when Mr. Fluff bean bag dog disappeared was HELL.

I now own a dozen of those dogs . . . I'll post a pic very soon of the craziness :)

totally get a backup doll. now. do not pass go. do not collect $200.

now.

and your fish tank of horrors pales when compared to what is going on in the kids' tanks. yes, tanks plural.

i keep singing "the circle of life..." but they are not amused.

Thanks for visiting my blog. Your daughter is adorable!
When my son was little, he had a pillow - tiny little baby-sized thing, about 8 inches square - that he HAD to have to sleep with. We had to drive all the way home one night to get it because we forgot it and he was NOT going to go to sleep without it. By the time he was 4, it was ragged, I had mended it several times. I found one similar to it and tried to replace it - no way!
So you can buy a back-up doll, but she won't go for it. They know the smell, the feel of THEIR special one. My son slept with that pillow until he was about 7, then he put it away, but would pull it out on bad days when he needed comforting. He's 22 now - I found his pillow stashed in his closet after he went to college, but it's not there now since he's moved. I'm thinking that he's taken it to his new apartment.

Enjoyed reading your blog

Now I know who to contact when I need tickets, because I lack that magical touch. You can be my very own Ticket Master.

Definitely get a second Baby Shell, and maybe a third. Take it from us, one can never have too many best friends laying around.

yous aw Nelson in concert- now I want to be you! I was so in love with them.....uhm, where is that poster anyway??

Baby Shell- very cute- but a dozen!

May 12, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterPam

Methinks you should buy at least two dolls.

Are you going to see NKOTB this go 'round?

May 12, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAndreAnna

You linked back. You too funny.

And, get at least one other. I made the mistake of getting a second set too late, and the toddler knows the difference between the old ones (he likes those) and the new ones (doesn't like those). So, make sure to get it quickly & let her get both good and dirty so she can't tell them apart.

Y'all slayed me with the Twittering Butt showing escapade :-)
Okay, I nearly choked on my Special K when reading the Ghost Crab, naked innards part :-)
I adore you!!

This post cracked me up!!
The Ghost Crab jumping out of that rock?!... eww and HAHAHA! I can just picture it! I would have been down the street too! There's a reason I don't have a fish tank.

And "giving us oodles of reasons to mock you"; you're hilarious. I think most of us would have killed to go to a NKOTB concert back in the day, you know.

Thanks for the chuckles this morning! I needed it!!

I'd suggest buying more than a twin. I'd purchase multiples ASAP. But remember, if the doll gets its eye poked out, poke out the back up dolls' eyes or else she will so be on to you.

Get yer butt to the store and buy a twin, a triplet and possibly even a quad to Baby Shell. Morgan has a bunny that MUST be with her to sleep and when she's having an off day. The bunny was given to her at Easter in 2006 and when it became clear it was THE bunny, we hunted high and low for a spare. Two years later, I STILL can't find one. Bunny's showing some serious signs of wear and I am dreading the day she loses a limb or her head. The kid has several other "friends" for sleep time, but if Bunny's not there, she knows it.

TicketMaster and I don't have a good relationship. I'm thinking the next time I need tickets, I'm so having you score them for me.

:)

The phantom crab? Hilarious! :-)
The tickets/sweet concerts/games? Sweeeet.
The ass-off? OH. Mah. Goodness!
The baby holding baby pics? So extremely adorable!!!

A twin baby is probably a good idea...just wait until "original" baby needs a washing. Try explaining to a two year old why baby is going in the washer...and better...why baby's head melted in the dryer! (yea, don't do that...it does melt)

Only 13 comments...what is everyone asleep? You had like 50 some yesterday. you are like famous blog lady now. When I first started reading you, you had 30, but 50? Wow...TV will do wonders for ya' huh? :-)

Anyhow, the doll photos are adorable and yes...brace yourself for the pain in the arse that thing will be for years to come. My nieces (at least five out of the four) love dolls and sometimes they walk away from nurseries, stores, other peoples houses, with dolls hidden under their shirts.

Oh my gosh, Val! I didn't know their heads melt. Glad to know that too! Not that my son should have any dolls...hubby might not like that.

Penguin Tickets? You know it really isn't going to matter because the Red Wings are going to take it all.

May 12, 2008 | Unregistered Commenternikki

Looks like Alexis had her own little mother's day with her baby 'shell. ;) Looks like you guys had some decent weather, too...we've had about 7 inches of rain since Thursday night...about three of those inches were yesterday.

And running down the street screeching about the crab? Yikes! Brings back one of my earliest memories when my mom opened the utencil drawer in the kitchen and a mouse jumped out at her face! Scared the crap out of all involved (yes, including the mouse).

That third picture is TOOOOO cute! Yeah, I would go out and get a replacement baby ASAP!

Happy twittering - I've signed up but have yet to really participate.... (and you can be sure I won't be emailin' pics of my big ole padonkadonk any time soon!)

May 12, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterElaine A.

Twins?! Get sextuplets . . . you may need a lot of Baby Shells.

Also, can't you just throw the fish tank of horrors away? It's starting to give me nightmares.

I really want to twitter but I'm scared that I will become immediately addicted.

May 12, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterALF

I cannot believe that you still deal with the Fish Tank of Horrors. You are a braver woman than I!!!

Alexis is so freaking cute with Baby Shell! It's almost as big as she is!

Also, I finally got to watch the clip of you on TV, and you were rocking the camera, girl! Loved the interview and your hotness!

May 12, 2008 | Unregistered Commentercaramama

The crazyiness that is your fish tank astounds me! I don't know how you put up with it!

It's really cute that Alexis carries Baby Shell around with her everywhere...definitely get a second, I'm sure you wont want to deal with what would happen should she go missing. I babysat a kid once who lost his special blanket and oh MAN was there hell to pay.

Akexis is so cute with her baby. Our Itty Bitty baby has been dragged around for three years and is looking rather yucky. ;)

I am so glad I do not twit. I would be stalking your sassy ladies all day long.

I. Can't. Twit. I have to repeat it to myself a couple times a day.

May 12, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterOHmommy

DUDE!!! I totally saw Nelson in concert here in the south after I moved. But my very first concert was Tiffany at the Syria Mosque in 1987 or 1988. Ahhh...the good ole days.

I will have to vicariously watch the Pens through you...so keep gettin' those tickets!

May 12, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMandy

I can barely blog properly (still can't do video) so I think twit would confuse, frustrate and take all my time ;)
Yes, you need another shell baby--nothing is worse then discovering the 'favorite toy' is lost at bedtime. I know, trust me.
I love the adoring look on her face on the last one :)

1. not going there. yes, i'm referring to twitter.
2. such a cute pic - sliding with the doll :)

May 12, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterHolly

That is so cute the way she loves her doll so much. Back up doll...good plan!

May 12, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTammy

I gotta get smart and buy a few backup Mrs. Elephants. The world would stop if Miss Peach lost hers:O

May 12, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterNap Warden

LOVE the fish tank/ghost crab story. LOL. Your blog is the best.

May 12, 2008 | Unregistered Commenter*shell*

You should buy her a little baby sling for her dolly. That way it would be a little more difficult to loose it. Although a backup might still be a good idea. :)

May 12, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKathryn

Reid went through a period where CareB was required to be in the same room at all times - talk about a stressful trip from Ottawa to San Diego and back. Then, CareB was replaced by other best friends. I took it very hard. Reid just moved on. ;+)

GET 15 backup dolls. Now. Go. Buy.

Hope you had a great Mother's Day!

Oh I heard all about the Ass-Off and I am afraid that now I'm really afraid of Twitter now!

May 12, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

I'm going to give Twitter a try, but I still have no idea what it is or what it does!

May 12, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterVerWaynia

I can't Twitter!! What the heck is wrong with me?? My brain can't think in 140 characters or less...I need to try again. Clearly.

And I'm with everyone else. Buy another Baby Shell. Or three. Save yourself some misery.

May 13, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCecily R

awww, that's love in a tunnel for sure.
I agree...twins...triplets even and rotate them while she's sleeping so they get equal wear.

May 13, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBirdie

Totally in love with the pics of Alexis and Shell. Who I'm assuming is named after the oil company, because your daughter dreams of someday working for companies that make a billion dollar profit in a quarter by forcing me to pay in internal organs every time I need to fill up.

I'm kidding. I obviously know from reading past posts that Shell is named after Shelly Long, because who wouldn't try to name everything after her?

May 13, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCatwoman

Isn't that the cutest thing, the way the static on the slide makes their fine baby hair fly up?

Mock you? For your New Kids obsession? Noooo. *snicker* But I can laugh behind your back, right?
