Takin' a Walk

Every day after I pick the Toddler up from daycare, I try to take her somewhere that she can just have a little fun. Since the weather has been muy sucky, the playground has been out of the question. I'm sorry, but I just have no desire to figure out what to do with a kid after they've landed with a splat in a mud puddle at the bottom of the slide. So lately we've been going to various trails to take a little walk. Despite her insistence that I don't know where I'm going (she yells "DAT WAY!" when I drive past the turn for the park--it's fantastic that my 2-year old is already a back seat driver), she seems to be enjoying the walks.

One thing that she hasn't been enjoying is my insistence that she try blowing the seeds off a dandelion. She can't seem to figure out how to blow without shoving fuzzy flower tops into her mouth first. Yum. I would feel bad about repeatedly insisting that she do it, but first I'm waiting for her to apologize for waking me up three to four time per night. Every night. For no reason other than she wants to make sure I'm still alive. So, yeah, I'll feel guilty just as soon as I get a full night's sleep. Uninterrupted.

She's damn lucky she's cute.

That right there, I'm convinced, is WHY kids are cute. If they weren't cute, why would we deal with them not letting us sleep, pooping and throwing up all over us, and needing so very much from us? It's really good for them that they are amazingly adorable.

Cute photos, as always :)

(Having difficulties with openID, so I can't sign in for some reason!)

I have broken up with Spring. FOREVER. That is all I have to say.

May 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCorrie

BigBrother doesn't even blow them anymore. He just shakes it and goes, OOOOOOOOOOH!

Ha.

Say what you will about our schnitty non-spring weather . . . I'm just happy it's not 1000 degrees in the Asylum which still has no AC. I also get that compulsion to take Sumo somewhere cool after he's been with the nanny all day . . . I'm not sure why considering the fact that he, too, wakes me up in the night and demands that I throw my boob on his head.

*sigh* Men.

And she's SOOO cute!

May 22, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterFlea

You could always shove her in the doll chair so she can't wake you up.

Kids are amazing at how early they recognize familiar areas in the car. I love how they start getting excited when you are getting near your destination.

Dandelions are another time my son tells me to blow. He tries, fails, and makes me do it.

Just don't get the wire hangers out and I won't call CPS on you.

May 22, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterjust jamie

Aww, she is super cute!

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterPoltzie

Those pics are fabulous! She is such a little comedian!

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKathryn

She IS adorable!!!!!

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMisty

Wittle sweetie peetie!

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterGreta

Totally sweet photos. Laura calls the dandelions "Wishers."

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCheri

In her one year old wisdom, Evie skips the blowing part and just eats the fluff. And then sputters and spits and looks at me like it's my fault.

I totally get why you insist on her learning to blow dandelion fluff. Spreading the seeds so that other kids can eat some in a few days is a right of passage. And I'm convinced, kid duty.

Until she stops waking you at night- there is no guilt! That last picture- wonderful!

The back seat driver bit only gets worse. When I tell my 4 year old to please stop, mommy doesn't need any help driving, he responds with,

"But Mommy, you're not very good at this! You need my help."

Smart Ass.

I try and get Morgan to blow the tops off the flowers and she, too, shoves them in her mouth. I don't do it because she wakes me up each night. I do it, usually, for cheap entertainment. I get bored during the day :)

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKellie

Punkin tries to blow the tops off of EVERY flower she sees. Mr. Daddy would like to strangle me for teaching the kids about dandelions b/c now we have them all over the yard!

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMadame Queen

Gotta love the blowy dandilions. We had to stop a bajillion and one times on the way home from a walk yesterday to pick and blow every.single.one.we.saw. Whew!

I forgot to tell you that we also LOVE our shadow. Even if it scares us a bit that it continues to follow us everywhere we go...

LOVE the shadow shot. ;)

My kids have made me stop the car before to comment on the field of dandelions "So beautiful!" They love them.

This is one instance where I'm glad Micah can't talk. That boy has directional sense better than MapQuest. If he could talk he'd be yelling at me all the time. Maybe he and Alexis could get it together somehow. She could teach him to sign commands to the front seat or something.

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

She's more then cute, she's adorable!

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTammy

You know, spring really has been a bite in the a**. Cute pictures!

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterNap Warden

Yeah we get the wakeup almost every night too. Usually only once. And since I am a beast ithout sleep I just give in and let the kid climb in our bed.
Nothing better than a foot in the face or a butt.

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMarmarbug

Hey, dandelions are a vegetarian food. It's not like you're making her eat the wings off a fly's back or anything.

If she starts crapping fully grown dandelions though, I'd find a new hobby.

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCatwoman

OMG that second picture is adorable!! She sure as heck is trying!

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSherE1

Who needs a Garmin when you got a toddler, right!

The hubs and kids have been going fishing after work lately. They all really enjoy it.

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterVal

You should tell her the flowers will grow in her tummy if she eats them (like watermelons) ;)

I love having my kids run around outside--they sleep better!

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterLisa

Awesome pics, as always.

I hear ya on feeling guilty after a full nights sleep. I think that'll be in many more years for me, but hopefully it will be sooner for you. :)

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered Commentercaramama

This is a test. Feel honored to be the first attempt to do this.

That is too cute she shoves them into her mouth first. Mine just keeps blowing air up her nostrils in vain. I sit and wonder if she'll pass out.

We're still waiting for uninterrupted sleep too. I heard it comes sometime after college.

The last few weeks have been crappy in midstate PA... chilly and damp or raining. I can't wait to start going on walks again. The Baby gets cranky now when he is cooped up.

Cute photos. :-)

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAnne

we found that duct tape works well...to keep shadows attached (ala Peter Pan) and to keep munchkins in bed at night.

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterColleen

oh those wacky kids.

and you think you're going to get uninterrupted sleep any time soon? just wait till she's a teenager.

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterthe planet of janet

This weather needs to get WARM now!

I so feel your pain on the no sleeping. My second child woke me up EVERY NIGHT FOR 5 PLUS years. That is NO LIE. No. lie! Uugh! I still twitch at the memories!

It will get better... I hope... in at least umm another 4 years! ;-)

I love the last picture with you and Alexis!!

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMelissa

Thank you for the Birthday wish. Your daughter is so cute.

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterEllyn

I'm so dumb, I was trying to figure out why you took a picture of a dirty sidewalk on that last one. (I was, of course, thinking you were dumb for taking it.) Then I read Melissa's comment up there. And, I am not apologizing to you for thinking you are dumb, but I am thinking... good picture.

P.S. I will apologize to you when I get a full nights sleep from NO LONGER obsessing over why your posts are so much funnier than mine and why I keep coming back to them when I, by default, can't stand you for being so funny!

... I'm waiting.

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSarah Brooks

yeah, what a cute little person she is. Hope you get some sleep, seriously.

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBirdie

I am totally scared to have kids because of the sleep thing. I think I will die without sleep.

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterALF

Yes, children were made cute for a reason. I just love that she's a backseat driver already. How cute!!

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterShellie

Cuteness really is a good thing for little guys and gals.

Your blog is so much fun!

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRebecca

Love that last shot. Enjoy it for it won't be long until she's taller then you! Honest. Oh, by fourteen they know how to blow 'wishies'. :)

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterLeanne

I tell ya what, the phrase "she's damn lucky she's cute" comes out of my mouth more than a few times a day at my house! It's what has saved my stinky kids numerous times!!

Just a by the way, she is DAMN cute!!

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKATE

I've been trying to teach Pufferfish about dandelion fuzz too. She loves when I blow the fuzz at her so it rains down in front of her. But when I try to get her to do it herself, she tries to eat the dandelion!

May 23, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterNicki

I still blow on a dandelion every once in a while. Just cuz.

May 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTootsie Farklepants

that last picture rocks! she is soooo adorable!

May 25, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSusie

That is so great that you take time after daycare to really do something with your daughter that matters and she'll remember.

Great pictures!
