The 4th of July Miracles

And on this day, July 4th, 2008, two miracles hath occurred:

The first miracle comes in the form of a certain set of in-laws and their miraculous appearance in The Burgh. It has been just shy of 2 1/2 years since Daddy o' Mr. Husband ventured this far North. When I first heard rumors of an appearance, I did not believe. That's right, I was not a believer. But, a big white flying hunk of metal landed in The Burgh, and aboard were Daddy o' Mr. Husband and Stepmommy o' Mr. Husband.

The Toddler, for her part, appears to be so shocked by this miracle that she can't even make eye contact with her visitors. I'll be talking to her in the morning and reminding her that Daddy o' Mr. Husband is far more likely to purchase Dora toys than I am, and that she should kick the butt-kissing into overdrive immediately.

(I plan to continue posting throughout this miraculous appearance, but if you don't see me around, do not worry. I'm somewhere or other, just not here. Or there.)

The other miracle, while not 29 months in the making, is a pretty darn big deal. I finally did it. Finally, six months later than I should have. It only took a few minutes, and today I FINALLY remembered and got it done. So mark your calendars for on July 4, 2008, I finally . . .

. . . took down Alexis' Christmas tree. I was going to just leave it up for next year, but we're are knee deep in looking for a new house, so there's a chance I would have to pack it anyway. Rejoice! All Christmas decorations are finally put away!

Commence mocking in 3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . . mock away.

I deserve it.

I cannot mock. I have a snowman platter displayed for all the world to see in my kitchen.

Hallelujah!

I cannot mock either. I never put shit away.

July 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterVDog

I also cannot mock, I once took three years to do my taxes!

Sweet idea! Leaving up the Christmas decorations until July 4th! Maybe you should have just put some little flags on the tree and left it up. ;-) Love that!

I am batshit crazy insane about having to have every single Christmas deco (and I have lots, including a bathroom tree(tm) ) put away before New Years Eve.

But don't ask me about my clothes. Or the bags of groceries that I just bought that will probably be eaten out of...

I have a trivet in my kitchen RIGHT NOW with a palm tree covered in Christmas lights. *hangs head in shame*

July 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTranny Head

No mocking here, this is the first year in a long time that we got the christmas lights down before Canada day. You're SO not alone!

Oh please Oh please be looking in my neighborhood. If you lived here, I would not care how long you leave the decorations up. We have neighbors who leave some white lights on a tree outside year round. It's very pretty.

The second miracle is greater than the first, me thinks! LOL

Does Alexis respond well when she sees them? Evan only sees Jeff's mom every few months and he's still at the age where he doesn't really remember her. I always feel so bad for her!

I'm laughing. But alas, I live in a glass house too. I had all my Christmas stuff in a big pile down the basement. It is now shoved into plastic bins on the shelves, as of LAST week. I had company coming over as well, thank goodness people do come to visit it's the only way I get things done!

*shaking head*
Miracles never cease...

I just wonder why NOW? Aren't we past the 1/2 way point to putting it back up??

July 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterHRH

Oh! Thanks for the reminder ot put away my snow globes!

July 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterFlea

No mocking here. You should see the amount of crap we threw away or gave away during this move and we only moved a year ago. Which makes me wonder, why did we keep it the first time?????

July 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCecily R

LOL!! Well done!

July 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJenty

I still have my Christmas cards handy--never know when you need one in July! LOL

July 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterThe Bee

Did the second miracle come about because of the first miracle? Were you shamed into it by your visitors? I'm not mocking . . . really!

July 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBia

Hahaha! I can't really mock you, but I do find it incredibly amusing.

July 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAllison Says

If it was up to my kids the Christmas decorations would be up 365 days a year.

July 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTammy

WITH ALL THE BOYD'S BEAR DECORATIONS YOU HAVE YOU SHOULD OF MADE IT A PATRIOTIC BOYD TREE. THAT WOULD OF ROCKED AND YOU COULD OF LEFT IT UP TILL LABOR DAY. THEN WHY PUT IT AWAY YOU WOULD THEN BE READY FOR PUMPKINS AND FALL NO NEED TO TAKE IT DOWN KEEP CHANGING THE THEME CHRISTMAS WOULD THEN BE RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER, LOL

July 5, 2008 | Unregistered Commenternana

No Christmas trees here, but kiddo still has an ornament hanging on her wall. She thinks it keeps away bad dreams, so I don't know that I'll ever be taking it down.

July 5, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterandi

Wanna know what else? Here's another miracle. I think she's starting to look more like you.

That? Is why I love AFF.

July 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBurgh Baby's Mom

Dude, you were half way to next year's tree. Why bother now?

Oh, um, 'cause maybe it's just plain grandma of you to have a Christmas tree up in JULY?

Nah.

Whatev.

July 5, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterjust jamie

I'm excited for Alexis for the 1st miracle...if you're really lucky, she'll be comfortable with them a few hours before they leave.

Second miracle? Considering I usually have a handful of things left out every year, I only have 1 item left out this time...the snowman draft-dodger in front of my fireplace. I didn't even know it was there (due to bins of baby toys in front of it), until Gavin said, "I wanna the leeettle snowman" as he tried pulling the snowman off of it.

And right now I'm laughing really hard, and I know you know WHY. Seriously, I'm laughing WITH you.... :)

July 6, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterColleen

Okay so the tree is not that bad. I mean Christmas in July right? And AFF is right. In the last pic she does resemble her momma.

July 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMarmarbug

OK, i need something new to torment you with....mmmm christmas in July? don't think so. i'll keeping thinking on this one.

July 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSusie

Consider yourself mocked.

Love this photo, love. it.

July 8, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterElaine A.

hahaha, that is precisely why I didn't put anything up last year, cause I knew it would take me half a year to get it all back down.
