EEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!
"Girls are squirrels, but boys make noise."
I remember those words over two decades after I last heard them. That phrase was a favorite of the janitor at one of my elementary schools and he would say it several times a day, most notably at lunch as he guarded the trash cans from errant trays and silverware. I couldn't pick the guy out of a police lineup these days, but I most certainly remember the words.
Those words imply that in his mind, boys are the louder of the genders.
Uh, no.
Call me crazy, but I do believe that girls are most definitely the louder gender. MOST DEFINITELY.
It's the screaming.
Why, oh why do girls scream? I know boys do it, too, but girls. Oh, the girls. How they scream. And scream. AND SCREAM.
Today Alexis was having a particularily scream-a-riffic sort of day. A day where it was funny to scream. It was delightful to scream. It was necessary to scream.
Mr. Janitor, you are a LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE.
Girls are squirrels, and boy can they make noise.

I don't know why they do. It's one of the gender mysteries for the ages.
p.s. I've got bling for you.
No way, dude. My youngest son is our screamer. And he'll talk your ear off.
oh the noise. and they do it for the pure joy of it.
IDK, my son has a pretty good scream as well, and he's generally very loud!
I completely agree. Girls are louder.
I don't know - right now it is a tie between the two grandchildren, one boy and one girl. Pretty bad over a bluetooth let me tell ya!
I have one of each. You are right - The Girl is far louder than The Boy. The Boy yells louder, though...but The Girl and the screams...oh, the screams...
You are so, so right. Even being outnumbered 3-1 the girl makes more noise. She calls it her talent. I call it annoying.
Honestly, when they all start screaming, I can't tell which one is which. This means they usually all end up in time-out! My girl is the youngest, so I think maybe her lungs haven't yet reached the full capacity that the boys have. She's loud, but they've got staying-power!
Just wait until there's another one, boy or girl...;)
I have one of each. #2 is definitely louder.
In fact, I now have to avoid screechy girls (of all ages; we have neighbors who are pre-teens and they haven't lost their love for it). It gives me instant migraines.
Squealing must be part of their genetic make up because I can't imagine where my daughter might have learned it otherwise. Squealing is her new thing...I only wish she could get an octave higher then it would only annoy the dog.
He must have been talking about my daughter. She talks (and screams) at about 5 dB. Can't. hear. the. girl.
I've raised two boys and working on the third, a girl. And she’s definitely louder. I agree, girls are squirrels, and boy can they make noise!
No way. I have two boys. Just one of them could totally beat Alexis. He doesn't know the meaning of the phrase "let's use our indoor voice".
I don't know I think my nephews are the definitely the loudest kids I have ever met.
I remember my pre-children husband muttering about the neighborhood girls and their non-stop shrieking, and how he would never have children that did that.
Hahahahahaha!
One girl is bad. Two girls feed off of each other and increase the screaching exponentially.
(but unlike the neighbors, we attempt to keep a lid on it)
oh ... the screaming doesn't stop there! My two are now (almost) 6 and 7 and they still scream (err SQUEAL). When there are several girls playing in my yard; my poor glass windows tighten up ... I can feel it and my teeth start to hurt. I'm quivering just thinking about it!
(eeewwweee SSSHHHIIIIVVVVEEERRR)
That beautiful little doll scream? You are the liar liar! She is so precious in that pic... so quiet... so good...
We took my little girl to the museum with dinosaurs, and when we got home we taught her what noise they make. She spent the rest of the afternoon going "Rooooaaaarrrr" at the top of her lungs. Indeed it is not a gender thing.
The two things Jon was most afraid of when we found out Gracie was a girl? The pink aisle at Walmart and the screaming. Both gave him nightmares.
Now he's afraid of other things too. Like when she'd old enough to date (which will happen when she's 30 if he has anything to say about it) or drive.
But the screaming is still pretty scary.
But she's so cute.
My baby is a screamer too and he's a boy. Maybe gender doesn't matter...
exactly why I was in charge of calling my brothers in from outside, or from in the basement, or tattling on them. they didn't dare to crap to me because of my big mouth. though I was never skreechy...just bellowed a lot.
My head nearly explodes when my friends with little girls come over and they scream all the time. It makes me want to rip my ears off. My boys can be noisy but nothing compares to the sounds of delight, anger, fear, laughter, and every other emotion of a little girl who's found her voice!
Yeah girls definitely have a horrid high-pitched scream! Both Little Bear and Pufferfish do it. I need ear plugs just to be around them!
By the way, when I was a kid it was "Boys go to Jupiter to get more stupider! Girls go to Mars to get more candy bars!" Makes perfect sense, right?
