I'm Talking to You, You Wimp

Now that we are no longer spending enough money on Pampers to keep Proctor & Gamble executives rolling in the hookers and blow, I have a confession to make:

Mr. Husband has changed more diapers than me.

Yes, you read that right. Despite the fact that I have always been the primary nighttime care provider, and the fact that I was home with Alexis for the first six months of her life, he changed her diaper more often than I did. Easily.

Weekends? He changed nearly every one. Last change of the day? He got those ones, too. The really stinky ones? Almost 100% his problem.

That part wasn't exactly his doing, or my doing. It was all Alexis. For as long as the kid could speak, she has been saying, "Daddy, I poopy," and asking him to change her. She could be sitting with me on the floor playing with Play-Doh while Mr. Husband was all the way upstairs doing something constructive, and she would stomp her way all the way to him to get changed, without so much as a whisper to me.

I didn't exactly try to stop her. I know a good thing when it passes me by.

Real men change diapers and I totally married a real man.

(It's Play-Doh, people. Don't be getting any crazy ideas in your head.)

I married that guy too.

I won't say he changed as many as I did, but close. Very close. And he never blinked once or asked if he should. He just did it.

I married that guy too.

He had no experience with babies, toddlers, or children, either. And definitely not girl children.

He's also done waaaay more baths than I have. (Although, in my defense, I worked a LOT of nights those first two years, and he had no choice.)

At this point, I can only hope I married that guy.

Your Mr. Husband? A winner.

I was lucky enough to find a keeper too! I love a man that rolls up his sleeves and gets to work - in the house:)

We've been out of diapers for quite a while, but my husband did his share, too. And I will admit that these days, I enjoy hearing, "Daddy, wipe my butt", because I am off the hook.

This is my first visit to your blog - I hopped over from Cecily's. I saw your title and had to come over, then I read your first few lines and that was the funniest thing I have heard in a while. LOL

You're right, you have a good thing. We have enough diapers to go around here, so its pretty even.

That is a good, good man you've got there. :)

I didn't get any crazy ideas until you said something.....ewwwwww.

I married a winner too.

I definitely changed more diapers, but not because my husband avoided it...I actually enjoyed it. It was kind of a bonding time. When my son was a baby, I'd sing to him and talk to him when he got changed, as he got older, we'd talk.

My husband is a very good diaper changer. He does probably change more than I do, and he never complains. Here's to real men!

February 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTTG

I can't say he outnumbers me because I am home all day doing it...but on the weekends and in the evening? He out changes me 2 to 1 at least. And if he is home, he handles 90% of the gross ones.

We were out to breakfast with my 14 yr old nephew when we were up north. Sabrina needed changed and Steve said he would take care of it. My nephew was astonished and asked (without the words because he knew I would kick his ass) if it wasn't sorta kinda my job. Steve told him it takes a real man to be a father and a real man steps up and takes care of his kids.

I'm beginning to think that I married the grandfather-minded of the bunch. If it wouldn't be so much work I'd have another baby just to make him change it. Apparently he's been lax in his services. Diaper changing ones, that is.

Love this. I think I married a good guy, too. He's with Madeline all afternoon, every afternoon, so I'm pretty sure he'll be the winner in the end. :)

(or maybe the loser... depends on your perspective I guess!)

Not that it wasn't obvious before, but your daughter is awesome.

Unfortunately for me, the first 2 weeks I got out of diaper duty (given that I couldn't stand up for more than 2 minutes without turning pastey-white and dizzy) but since I'm home with her 3 days each week, I think I've taken the brunt of things diaper-wise. Though he does usually do evening diapers and isn't afraid of the poopy ones.

Good Lord, can you teach my kiddos that trick? It's always a run to Mommy when the poop comes:(

Since I stay home with the kids and he doesn't, I guess I've changed more diapers than he has. Still, he's pretty great in the husband/daddy department! We're lucky girls!

A REAL man with a REAL man's name! Must be the old man in them - my hubby handles his fair share of the diapers as well.

How did you get so lucky? The only time my ex changed a diaper was if we were around his family. He wanted it to seem as if he was the main parent of us both. Needless to say my daughter used to poop on cue whenever she saw my ex mother-in-law. I kid you not, we could change the diaper before going in and wouldn't you know...grama poop.I cant' say I didn't have the same urge *winks*...(Hugs)Indigo

I married my partner in this whole marriage/life/parentting thing.

I am no one's bitch.

Including Pampers'.

February 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAndreAnna

I agree men have to change diapers. I was scared at first but now I do it all the time. I even wrote a post about it called "Diaper Fear".

February 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterOtter Thomas

I wish I had married that kind of man. When my kids went to dad, he sent them to me. Consider yourself very lucky!

February 13, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterjustmylife

My husband did more than his fair share of diaper changes with both of my girls when they were newborns, but I did most of the rest of them. So yeah you got a good man there!

February 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKristi

Since my husband has been gone for well over a year, I'm making him do EVERY POOPY DIAPER for the next child in retribution. What's that, you say? He was in a war zone and has an excuse? I don't care! He gets to embrace the feces. Hawt.

February 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTrannyhead

Um, I'm jealous. There is no *way* Zach could even claim he has changed half as many diapers as I have. No way. Granted, I stay home with Alex all day almost every day, and have since he was born...but still. I gotta teach Alex to start asking Zach to change him. Alexis is truly awesome.

February 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAllison Says

That's great about him changing her a lot, but I'm going to close my eyes now and I would like you to talk to me some more about not buying Pampers.

That's my happy place. Anywhere but the Pampers aisle.

February 13, 2009 | Unregistered Commentertammy

I'm so jealous! I can't count on one hand the number of diapers my huz has changed in the last 2.5 years. His claim to fame is that he changed her very 1st diaper.
