Pucker Up

We were flying through Wal-Mart when I spotted it: Bolt. On DVD. Two whole days BEFORE it was supposed to be available. Of course I felt the undying need to buy it because I am SUCH a law breaker. (Shhhh . . . don't tell the Feds.) We had big plans to spend the evening watching the movie as a happy little family.

However, before Mr. Husband could finish up whatever it is that he does upstairs every evening, Alexis committed a major sin. MAJOR. I won't publicly rat her out, but it was BAAAAAD. I was left with no choice but to put the kibosh on the Bolt viewing.

I was sad.

Mr. Husband was sadder.

Sometimes it really sucks to be the grown-up, but there it was.

Alexis, for her part, was also not very happy with me. When Mr. Husband appeared, she pulled the ago-old trick of asking The Dad when The Mom has already declined the request. He did the wise thing and maintained the united front.

But.

Then he sensed a shred of weakness emanating from my being.

He told Alexis, "Y'know, you really should apologize to Mommy, and if you want to watch Bolt, kiss her butt."

Alexis looked at me, grinned her cheesiest grin, and said, "I sorry!" as she walked towards me. She crawled up on the couch next to me and started grabbing at my leg. "Momma, I can't see your butt!" she said.

Mr. Husband and I started laughing. "What are you trying to do?" I asked.

"I can't see your butt!" she repeated. "I need to kiss it!"

The Classic Toddler Misunderstanding Moment? Way more fun than watching any silly movie.

(Yes, this is Day Two of the Tutu Monster.)

So did you give in?????

I didnt' make the connection when I was at Wal-Mart earlier today, but ours had a small shelf of Bolt, too.

Also, I bought The Reef for the boys to watch, but had one that didn't have a good day at school, so no movie until we have a good day from both kids. It sucks that both get punished when one messes up.

Aww - come on! Tell us what she did!

March 23, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTrannyhead

TOO funny! And I'm with Tranny. Except I know these are all eventually for Alexis to read. And I know that she'll also want to know what it was that was so bad. So do tell!

@Valarie Lea--I didn't give in, and am currently staring at the damn movie trying to decide if it's worth losing sleep to get to watch it all alone. Not sure.

It is so hard being a tough mommy. Tonight I told Jonathan he could not watch "Buh Year" again (Toy Story) because mommy was watching her show (the season finale of Jon and Kate Plus 8, which I haven't been watching because Kate drives me crazy, but which they teased everyone with making it look like Jon and Kate might be getting a divorce in the previews so I had to watch it like the reality TV lemming I am. That evil TLC). And he cried and cried, but I put my foot down and told him mommy wanted her half hour of adult TV for once. I had to play action figures during it, but hey...I won. :-)

We picked it up, an that's all that has been on since. I think it's because Danny wants to watch it, but it is so cute.

Did you get pictures with the Bolt cast at Hollywood Studios - oops, sorry Disney-MGM Studios? That was one of Danny's favorite moments, meeting that dog, cat and hamster let me tell you.

So did you give in, or just watch it after she went to bed?

My mummy don't have time for movie nowadays as she has to take care of me and the chores.I love my mummy smell so much that I can't let go of her...

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered Commenternarelleserlinechoo

don't tease us like that. we really want to know what she did that even "kissing butt" wouldn't solve.

heh heh heh.

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterthe planet of janet

Well how was the movie? Surely you gave in after the butt kissing moment? Or maybe I'm the only one who can't stand her ground when the boys do something hilariously cute?

So really you'll tell us she wanted to kiss butt but not what she did to warrant the butt kissing? Really? C'mon....

Being a grown-up sucks sometimes. Especially when it screws up plans we have :)

Soooo...what'd she do?

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKellie

I hate being a tough mom someday...although I know it is absolutely vital to raising a good, respectful kid. Christina and I are reading American Girl books. I actually am really enjoying them as well. But she had some episodes that required serious consequences...so the books went back to the library for a few days until she straightened out. I think I was just as bummed as she was! I SO wanted to give in and let her keep them, but I knew that taking them away would be a very good lesson. Sucks sometimes....

Y'all are crazy if you think I'm ratting her out. :-)

Nobody has watched the movie. Hopefully we can all behave ourselves like decent human beings so we can watch it tonight!

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBurgh Baby

Way to stick to your guns...I assume you didn't cave?

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterNap Warden

Bwahahaha!!!!! I love it. Kids are so literal.

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

Hehehe...that's hilarious!!

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTammy

I want a tutu! Why can only toddlers get away with it?

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterhoneywine

I nearly sprayed my computer monitor with iced tea laughing out loud! Nice one, Mr. Husband, nice one! And kudos to you for standing your ground. I need practice at that.

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterPSU Mom

@PSU Mom--The other adult in our house NEVER stands his ground. I am left with no choice. I. hate. it. Waaaaaaaa!

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBurgh Baby

I love the tutu monster. I wear the same ball cap everyday so I can understand her love for the tutu.

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterOtter Thomas

That's the worst - When you have to take away a treat that you yourself also wanted to enjoy. Been there.

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered Commenter3carnations

You better hope she doesn't start kissing your butt in public places now! Although, if it happens while I'm around, that would be fun.

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJen

Oh. My. Goodness. I just hurt myself laughing. Thank you. :)

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTrinity

HAHA! We had a butt kissing misunderstanding in this house too. hehe

I love the tutu monster! SO CUTE!

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKat

So funny!! I thought I had seen Bolt early too, but then I realized it was the Blu-Ray instead :-( But we did get it today and K is happily watching it as I type, which is why I have a moment to do just that!

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

I was sooo excited to watch Bolt today (got it out of the Redbox) but.. besides (um, I forgot his name) the hamster, I didn't think it was all that great. I think some of the funny parts from the previews were missing from the movie. Or maybe I just missed them, I was folding a mountain of laundry at the time.

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterheather

omg.

you are TOOOO CUTE.

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCandy

You'll have to give us a review once you finally get to watch it! Way to stick your ground even if the toddler does try to kiss your butt. :-)

March 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterHeatherY

Too funny! I love it. :D

March 25, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterHey it's Amy Shipp

Wow, I am so impressed. I would have whipped out that movie right then.
Of course I am paying for it now that my boys are 22 and 24 year old spoiled brats.

When my son was around 2 I used to give him a piece of toast for breakfast. He would play with it for a while until it got all gross and soggy. I would tell him "Eat your toast" a few times. Then I noticed him sucking on his toes. I'm thinking, what the heck is he doing? Then it finally orrurred to me. He thought I was saying "Eat your toes" So of course he took that literally. He was trying to eat his toes.
Probably the last time he listened to me!

Occurred. It finally occurred to me.
Geeze, I should read these things over before I hit publish.
Sorry.

That is TU TU cool!!!

And BOLT. JR is riveted by the TV commercials advertising the video . . . maybe I should???

March 25, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLaski

HAHHAHAHAHAH! I love toddlers for just this reason.

I think I am going to need the no sew tutu directions.
