Gag Me with a Pink Wall
Alexis is not happy about all this house stuff. She has learned to embrace the fact that many of her toys have had to get ready to go to the new house, even going so far as to help me separate them into "OK to go to the new house" and "Needs to stay here longer" piles. However, she has not learned to embrace anything to do with the actual house itself.
Saturday, as we scoured the place for reasons to keep our money, Alexis followed me around asking to go home. I took her whining as an opportunity to break it to her that we might be making that place our new home.
She wasn't impressed.
I tried telling her that she was going to get to finally have a room just for all her toys.
She wasn't impressed.
I told her that we would be able to have a swing and slide in the yard, just outside the back door.
She wasn't impressed.
I tried to tell her she could pick whatever bedroom she wanted (just so long as it was the one I wanted her to pick--the biggest bedroom has its own bathroom and NO, ain't no 3-year old of mine getting a bathroom all to herself).
She wasn't impressed.
I then dug deep in my bag of tricks and told her that she could paint her room whatever color she wanted.
She wasn't impressed.
It wasn't until later when I took her to look at paint samples at Home Depot that she started to see the joy in decorating her new room. She intently studied the rainbow of choices, searching high and low for just the right color.
She grabbed pink.
I HATE pink. Like, HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE. Alexis doesn't know that because I try not to influence her likes/dislikes (Hello? The kid loves Lima beans. I cannot accept blame or credit for that fact--it's all her.). Yet, I hate pink, especially decorating with it, with the fire of a million suns.
Whatever.
I begrudgingly told her she could paint her room pink.
She was happy. Then she saw something that made her even happier.
It.
The display for Disney paint.
And the other it.
A little sample card of a room painted with a High School Musical theme.
She happily told me, "I know! I'll get a pink High School Musical room!"
::headdesk::
Ever since then, she has carried around that little card, occasionally glancing at it and smiling as she imagines her pink High School Musical bedroom, complete with High School Musical blankets, walls, carpet, and doors (her ideas, not mine).
I'm going to hate every single second of decorating that room, but at least Mr. Husband will be able to get his Zac Efron fix whenever he needs it.

Well, she has good taste in dresses. ;-)
OH my - that is the cutest little dress I've ever seen! She's beautiful. Okay, so cute about the painting her room. I'm sorry that you hate pink! What colours is HSM? Maybe she'll forget... I'm sure she'll forget... maybe do her room like, half pink and half like, brown? Or something?
By the way, my oldest son (3 and a half) goes to Home Depot weekly. He loves it there. Do you realize my house has about 350,000 paint samples? All in blues and greens. They're all over my house, those little paint samples!
Just love that little sun dress and the flower in her hair.
So sorry you are in HSM world--it's not pretty I tell ya ;)
Somehow that dress has become the point of the post - and it's SO CUTE!!!
But her pink HSM room is cracking me UP. heh. when Shark was 3 he loved construction equipment and Home Depot. He wanted his room painted Home Depot orange. I painted it blue and got him Home Depot orange sheets and he was happy.
Possibly she'll go for some such deal? (Girls are generally harder to deal with, imo)
Oh no!
Idea! Have her watch Nate Berkus on Oprah.
I am laughing hysterically. AT you. And I can because my daughter never went through that stage and my boys won't. I'll be sure to send some items for the pink room. Oh, this will be so much fun!
Maybe it is time to start searching the internet for pictures of decorated rooms! Surely you can get her hooked on another idea?!
I was so worried about Dylan adjusting to the new house. He didn't care at all! Maybe she'll surprise you.
so funny...
and honestly my husband has decided (since 17 again, and then renting all three hsm's, for Genny of course, that Zac is a very talented actor.
ahem.
Maybe this will cheer you up: she could have picked Dora. :)
Oh, this whole 'house adventures' thing is going to be so much fun! I'm sure that's why you did it. You're buying a house purely for the amusement of your bloggy audience. Between that and the HSM bedroom, you're going to be sainted. Or bathed in unwanted advice. Either way.
Yikes ... lesson learned from this. I'll make sure to give my kid 3 pre-screened options and let him choose from those. High School Musical? Ugh. The worst part is that she won't want it in a year.
OK, I am a bit scared for you over the family and the High School Musical thang...That pic. however, priceless:)
When my son got to choose his paint, he chose yellow. And red. And blue. He has one yellow wall, one red and two blue. Again, his ideas. I totally agree with you. Not my choice, but it's not my room, and it's not hurting anyone. :-)
I think I speak for us all when I say that I cannot wait to see pictures of this room. :D
I've found a new affinity for pink in the last 24 hours! : )
I love that Alexis is into decorating. But I'm OH so sorry about the HSM stuff...
I have a couple of cougar friends who would LOVE to sleep in a room decorated with Zac Efron...
Oh no not you too! Sigh I did the same thing with Skye her choice was a really bright pink. The problem was the house was an old Victorian one and the walls changed the whatever color you put on them (Nothing worked). In the end her room looked like Pepto Bismol.
When she decided she wanted to move back in with me instead of her dad. Paul gave up his musical room (it's a small two bedroom house). He wanted her to feel welcome and told her she could paint it whatever color she wanted. *Blink* You idiot you have no idea what you've done have you, I asked.
True to nature she painted it Lime Green with Neon Green Harlequin Diamonds. Not just the wall, but the ceiling too. WE lived with that for 3 years before she went off to college. My daughter has some weird creative ideas. (Hugs)Indigo
I don't really WANT to laugh, but the giggles, they are escaping.
Oh. I feel for you girl. Just tell her that because this is her choice of room decor, you can never ever go in and clean.
Nice. Both Cooper and Maren go straight to the paint every time we go to Home Depot - thank GAWD they haven't figured out that rooms other than the kitchen and the office can be painted! Cooper immediately goes for the CARS red and Maren chooses PRINCESSES.
And I LOVE the dress! She is such a little fashion plate!
Heh. When I was 10 my mom surprised me on my birthday with a hot pink room, a princessy canopy bed with Strawberry Shortcake bedding, and canopy. I HATED Pink, I was too old for strawberry shortcak, AND I was a tomboy. Alas, mom was living vicariously through me, and I knew if I told her I didn't like it I would live in hell. So As I wept, I lied and told her I was crying because it was the most amazing room ever. THANK Goodness my daughter wants a blue and purple room, with polka dots.
I totally understand what you are saying. I try not to influence my girls with my feelings on things. I really hate it when the specifically ask me how I feel about a certain thing because I want to be truthful but at the same time i want them to like things because they like them, not because I like them. (Which isn't as big of a problem anymore with my teenager...LOL)
P.S. Thank you for your comment over at my place :O)
Maybe you could convince her to pick a different main color, and coordinate with pink trim or something? Good luck!
Oh, and I like lima beans too! And brussels sprouts! I've warned my husband that he will not make any ick faces when I serve veggies he does not like to Alex - I don't want him to be as picky as my sisters were.
My 6 year old loves pink, to the point it is sickening how much pink she owns. And of course she lurves her some HSM and would be so PINK with envy knowing someone had an HSM room.
First, Alexis is so beautiful! Love that dress and the flower hair thing!
Second, when I got to pick my own room color when we moved when I was little, I wanted the whole thing pink. It was like a Pepto Bismal bottle threw up in that room. And I LOVED it! My poor parents. But at least there was no High School Musical back then. Good luck to you!!!
Oh no.
I'm thankful that my daughter is only two and therefore knows nothing about High School Musical. I watched all of five minutes of that movie and it scarred me for life.
I love the picture of your daughter! That dress is from Gap, right? I love Gap. Though I hate that it makes me broke.
@WhisperingWriter--I just picked up that dress at the Gap Outlet for $8 (had a $5 off coupon). Seriously.
That will be a blast for your husband. He can stare at Zac when ever he wants now. I'll have to get a Hannah Montana room for my husband. I've discovered that when I'm not home he watches the show. I reminded him she's only 16 and he said that isn't it. "I just get caught up in it." Is it possible I married a 12 year old girl?
I have enjoyed reading your blog.
I am new to the blog world, but have seen the miracle of the blogging community and prayer in the last two days. Hope you will stop by my blog and pray for little Maggie.
Oi all of a sudden I'm glad I have boys
I'd be happy to send her my REAL! EAST! HIGH! shirt.
(For like $500, that thing is GOLD.)
Heh.
oh dear lord. not high school musical...
I've kept them away from HSM, but my girls did get a pink room. A pink and purple room. It actually turned out very nice. We haven't discovered the decorating with characters idea -- unless you count the Tinkerbell blanket Monkey got one Christmas.
good luck.
ciao,
rpm
First of all, love the dress. Secondly I feel for you. We've never had pink walls. My girlie always liked strange colors, like black was a favorite at one point, but never pink. Now she likes this hideous, bright yellow. Unlike you, I'm influencing and drawing the line at hideous brights on the walls. They're confined to accents so it's a nice compromise, I think. I hope Alexis LOVES her new home and her new pink room!
Hopefully a new hot movie will come out before you actually get to the point of painting her new room.
Congrats on the house!
