Day One Hundred Twenty-Four

I don't know that anybody is managing to have a great day lately. Every day has a layer of sucktacular spread over the sucktastic and dipped in suckola. There's no point in denying it. Facts and stuff.

That said, I am still making it a point to try to find something positive to take with me each and every day. Basically, I'm trying to be more like Mila. She is so very focused on what makes her happy that she generally throws a tantrum when something doesn't, but then moves on. Like, she's over it in a snap. It's pretty impressive.

I want to be Mila when I grow up.

In the spirit of being more like her, here's my "what went well today" list:

1. Mila had a friend over today because there is exactly one of her friends whose parent is taking ~this~ as seriously as I am. Accordingly, we've slightly expanded our quarantine group to include that friend. The two six-year-olds together is always freakin' adorable, but ending them together is a nightmare. They both throw fits and make life very difficult. Thus, I bribed them into being okay with their play date ending by letting them sit together in the passenger seat of my car while I drove the friend back to her house, a whopping 200 ystfd away. It's worth noting that we're in an isolated neighborhood, so the odds of seeing another car are real low. The odds of me driving faster than 10 mph in the neighborhood are even lower. So, legit, it was like rolling down the driveway. The friend could have walked home faster.

They thought it was SO COOL OMG.

I love that this age can be so easily charmed by something so simple.

2. My work stuff went well today. There's a lot of chaos happening in that world as well, so a smooth day is a good day.

3. There were no swimming bats in our pool today. DEFINITE WIN.

4. The weekend was spent completing the worst yard project of all time - replacing the pond liner. While that project is the sort of thing I will have nightmares about for years to come, the pond is starting to come back together. It looks ... good. And! For the first time in two years, it doesn't leak. Amazing what happens when you fix problems the right way!

5. Alexis made cookies today. She's the best.

6. I'm normally travelling internationally this week. In fact, I would be somewhere in Asia right now, if not for COVID-19. That means I didn't have to take a 20-hour flight. WIN.

7. It's almost Friday. Let's just sit and enjoy that fact for a moment, mmkay?

8. It rained enough today that I didn't have to water the garden. Yay!

9. Mila slept until 10:00 this morning. I didn't know she was capable of that sort of magic, but it certainly was a part of the reason my first big presentation of the morning went smoothly. It's super helpful when you don't have a little girl who comes running into the room while you're speaking to declare, "I need new underwear!"

10. I somehow managed to come up with 9 whole things that were better than okay today, even though it was a rough day overall. That in and of itself definitely counts as a 10th good thing.
