Day Three Hundred Twenty-One
Okay, y'all. I need ideas.
The small creature who lives in this house has her mind firmly set on not ever being a reader. For what it's worth, she is completely capable of reading; she chooses not to. And it's completely a choice. COMPLETELY.
99% of the time, Mila wants to be everything Alexis is. She copies the way her sister dresses, phrases she says, things she likes, activities she does, all of the things. But that other 1%? That other 1% is all about being contrary. Mila *loves* that she is her sister's opposite in so many ways, so she purposely chooses a thing here and there to be opposite with. For example, Mila will tell you that she hates eating vegetables, but it is a lie. She likes sweets, sure, but I can feed that kid a ridiculous vegetable soup or fajitas or whatever and she will destroy it, as long as nobody is watching.
So. Reading. Mila can't possibly enjoy reading because that's what her sister enjoys most in life. Mila has blatantly admitted that is why she won't read. She will happily tell you, "I like to let Sissy do all of the reading because she likes it and I don't like the same things she likes." She is just plain being a pain in the butt.
It's time for me to trick her into enjoying reading.
Dispense with the ideas, please.

Closed captions on the TV with the sound off? :)
Are there any videogames she likes that require reading to be able to make progress? Our little learned to read so she could move forward in Zelda.
Write down some elaborate directions on how to find some treats hidden in the house.
Comic books or graphic novels?
What about plays/scripts? Would she read lyrics of songs as they played on YouTube? Would she WRITE songs or plays or poetry?
Since she is really into pets, fish etc maybe you could convince her that they love being read to. Or perhaps a stuffed animal, if that’s more feasible. You could also try finding books all about what she’s most interested in. Good luck!
