Drama Squared

Alexis is dramatic. Very dramatic. There's no small thing she can't make bigger. It's her superpower.

Mila is four, therefore she too can bring the drama. I expect that Mila may actually outgrow some aspects of the drama. She's very matter-of-fact about all things, so eventually it won't be fun to be all WOAH IS ME over every little thing. I *think* it's just the four talking right now.

If you put Drama together with Drama-ier, you get OMG. STAAAAAAHP.

Last night we were gathered around a fire on our patio. There were s'mores, of course, because Mila is a real person with real opinions and her opinions include s'mores every time there is a hint of a fire. Mostly she just wants to sneak as much chocolate as she can but shhhh! Don't tell her I know. She still thinks she's getting away with something when I slide a little her way (mostly so she stays away from the good stuff).

Between stuffing her face with secret chocolate and watching her sister set marshmallows on fire, Mila was watering my flowers. It was really very nice of her to take the water out of her water table and put it in a tiny cup and then walk it across to the fairy gardens. I think each little flower got about two drops of water. Which, that's two more than I gave them, so win. Good job, Mila.

During one of those back-and-forth trips, Mila suddenly screamed. Loudly. Miss Drama-ier had set down her marshmallow roasting stick and Miss Drama had stepped on it. Miss Drama doesn't know how to wear shoes, so ... it was not good.

I rushed over to pick Mila up and took her inside to run cold water on her foot while I assessed the damage.

No blister.

I could see where she had stepped, but ... it was minor. Very minor. It turned out that she managed to step on the RIGHT marshmallow roasting stick because she stepped on the one that had cooled off most of the way. It was still warm, but not hot, so basically Mila had a teeny tiny red line on her foot, but it faded away as fast as a blink. It was more of an indention from stepping on a thing. Definitely not a serious burn.

BUT WOAH IS MILA. She fed off of our initial panic and went into full-blown drama mode. Considering it was the other kid who left the stick on the ground, we didn't really need the guilt trip, but maybe that was just Mila's way of fixing the fact that we didn't take a real vacation this summer. She packed a big old big for that guilt trip and then invited her sister along, but she made her sister ride in the trunk because, "BAD, SISSY."

Alexis felt terrible, of course. When she feels terrible, she kicks into overdrive. This time that meant that she grabbed the first aid kit and turned herself into Dr. Alexis.

Dr. Alexis managed to wrap Tiny's entire foot, almost like a cast, and HOOBOY. Mila looooooooooved the attention and extra drama and SO MUCH DRAMA. All that was missing was a little set of crutches and both girls would have been satisfied.

For a tiny little red mark. Which, it wasn't even visible this morning so I'm thinking that maybe all that wrap and antibiotic and tape was perhaps overkill. OR PERHAPS IT ENABLED A MIRACULOUS CURE.

We'll never know.

What we do know is that Mila refused to take her little cast off all day today, a fact which Alexis loved because DRAMA. If you put drama with drama-ier, you get these two.
