For I Have Betrayed The Child

SOMEONE is still kind of being a jerk about eating at daycare, so weird things have happened at home. "Weird things" have included a level of domestication that makes me feel a little dirty, frankly. For example, I purposely bought a ton of apples and then made enough applesauce for Mila to be able to eat for years to come.

The years' supply of applesauce was supposed to remain in the freezer for a few more months, but that SOMEONE just can't make up her mind to eat well every single day. Rather, she picks and chooses days when she will go on strike, which causes an avalanche of drama.

I hate drama.

Alas, the applesauce is emerging early. With any luck, we will graduate to having a baby who eats some solids at daycare in the next few weeks.

By the way, before you get your panties in a wad about me giving a 4 month-old applesauce, I would like to direct you to Exhibit A. Exhibit A is an 8 year-old girl who last week threw a fit because she wanted lentils and we didn't have any. Alexis has recently developed a love for chocolate, but I think she would still pick lima beans over a candy bar if she was certain there were no witnesses.

What I'm saying is that I may not follow the so-called protocol when it comes to food, but it works for us. So zip it, helpful people of the internet.

That same 8 year-old happens to be a thief, so she felt the undying need to intervene in Round One of the Applesauce Wars. She grabbed herself a cup of her very own, and then promptly whined endlessly. Apparently applesauce that is very literally nothing but apples is WRONG, SO WRONG, OMG. A little bit of cinnamon fixed it right up, though.

For Alexis, that is.

I wouldn't let Mila try it with cinnamon. She got nothing but the pure stuff.

I think maybe she wants some cinnamon, too.

I don't have kids so giving a baby some applesauce seems okay to me. I guess it could be worse, right? I hope it gets better!

I had to write an article recently for Your Baby magazine on early introduction of solids. In my research I found out that the WHO standard of 6 month introduction was from one study and that it wasn't conclusive. Bigger babies generally need solids earlier. My pead suggested we start solids at 4 months with Zoey as she is a large baby and was basically starving. The new suggestions from WHO is that babies should be treated as individuals and each baby will have a different start date for solids ranging from 3 months to 8 months. So applesauce is fine. However the face does say that the applesauce doesn't taste great.

A) of my nephews (there are 4) started eating cereal in their bottles at 3 mos. That was the only way to satisfy them. So applesauce works too. You're the mom. You know what is best.

Um, can I have some of the applesauce?

My oldest is 13. When he was a baby is was kosher to give a baby solids at 3 months. As each of my kids were born the age increased. I had my last baby last year, and I paid stoped paying attention the Guidlines. The other three are happy and healthy, so around four months I started putting food in her pie hole. She was getting jealous seeing everyone else getting all the food!
