Happiness in Charleston

Obviously I spent the past week in Charleston, SC with the girls so Alexis could compete at dance nationals. There are two really important things to note:

1. Alexis' heart sings and her spirits soar when she is dancing. There is no better place in all of this world for her to be. She is INCREDIBLY happy while dancing.

2. Mila's heart sings and her spirits soar when she is at the beach. You can drop that girl absolutely anywhere and she'll find happiness, but at a beach, she will find a type of joy that I really hope everyone gets to experience at some point in life.

Those two things together add up to BEST WEEK EVER. Friends crashing the party made it even better than the best.

There are a million things worth noting, but as often happens when you're busy living rather than writing about living, a lot of those things are lost in the wind. I have the sensation of them, the feelings they brought, but not the exact quote or action that led to the moment. I know Mila said something that led to me nearly falling over laughing when she was delightfully burying my feet in the sand, but what was it? And Alexis rushing out to the audience with her team so she could cheer on another team from her studio? So good. I don't know who all was with her and I don't even know which dance they were cheering for, but throughout the competition, they were competing against themselves because of how the divisions were drawn. And yet, they still all loudly and proudly rooted for everyone else to do well.

They took 2nd place to another team from their studio. And were geniunely and truly happy for that other team. (More impressive, Alexis was on that other team last year and there were tons of personality conflicts all around because a few of the girls are ... something or other. Yet STILL they want everyone to do well.)

So many good moments. So little time.

We're going to need to do it again next year, but maybe we can do it somewhere where the weather forecast is even just a tiny bit accurate 10 minutes before the weather starts weathering.
