Happy Birthday, Penelope Grace!
If it were my birthday today, I'd order up a new camera, maybe a fun lens, and definitely about twenty hours of sleep. Apparently this fuzzy face prefers to dream a little ... colder.
Penny is, as of today, officially no longer a puppy, and somehow she managed to get EXACTLY what she wanted for her birthday -- about eight inches of snow.
Our plan was to wake up this morning, pile into the car, and head home to Pittsburgh from Indianapolis. The plan was thwarted about an hour in when we had managed to drive maybe ten miles and had watched four cars impersonate Olympic figure skaters. The fourth one did a slow, graceful figure eight all the way across the interstate right in front of us. As it slid to a stop, I muttered "EFF THAT. Turn around." A few minutes of discussion later, we figured we could either press on and get to Pittsburgh about twelve hours later, or we could turn around and go hang out with family for a few hours, giving road crews a chance to catch up with the snowfall. I'd rather sit on a couch waiting for the snow to stop than at the side of a highway, so that's what we're doing. We shall see if we picked correctly soon.
In the meantime, Penny definitely thinks we picked correctly. She is very happily spending her birthday frolicking through the snow drifts.
This one is pretty happy as well.
I'm honestly not sure which one of them loves the snow more.

Happy birthday, Penny!
Callie got her first REAL snow play today. She was beside herself with glee. And is now sleeping heavily. On my foot.
Hope your trip home was uneventful.
What fun! and Happy Birthday Penny!
Hope you guys got home safe. My best friend is in Indianapolis, and he too had a couple of ice skating adventures on the highway with his car.. It sounded scary!
Definitely not a bad idea to get off the road. Even if you can keep your car under control, there's no accounting for who may slide into you. Good luck!
