I Bet that Shark is Looking Real Good After This, Mr. Husband
I am a gift-finding genius when it comes to Christmas. I'm not too shabby when it comes to birthdays. Father's Day, however, is a whole other thing. Father's Day kicks my butt up and down and left and right and through the uprights and TOUCHDOWN! I lose at Father's Day.
The thing is that the Mr. Husband isn't exactly patient when it comes to acquiring whatever it is that he wants. In other words, if he wants something, he buys it. There is no surprising him with anything good, unless you have $1000 to spend because that's about how much any of the few things he wants cost.
It's a never-ending bottle of suck for those of us who aren't about to go out and by stereo systems and TVs and the like.
This Father's Day, however, I thought it would be different. I thought it would be easy. I had a plan. My plan was to ask Alexis what she wanted to get him.
What? She's old enough to make these sorts of decisions on her own. In fact, she kicks butt at finding things that I would like. Truly.
So . . . I asked Alexis what she wanted to get Daddy for Father's Day. Her first answer was, "pants."
"Why do you want to get Daddy pants?" I asked. A logical question, in my opinion.
"Because he needs to wear some," she replied.
I'm not exactly sure what she meant by that, but whatever. Her next answer?
"Let's get Daddy a shirt!"
Shirts are good. Everybody needs shirts. I asked Alexis what she wanted to get him with that shirt.
"A tie!" she instantly blurted out.
She continued on to add a belt, shoes, and a bag for his computer.
In other words, she just wants him to dress him for work, something that would thrill him about as much as finding leeches in his coffee maker.
I think this thoroughly proves exactly one thing--I'm WAAAAY better at brainwashing the kid so that she knows what to suggest be purchased for me than Mr. Husband is.

Sabrina is a great gift suggester. She told daddy he should get me a purse, some shoes, a new wallet, and some peanut M&Ms. Love that kid. (He ignored all of that except the M&Ms which wasn't entirely a bad choice.)
The first couple of Father's Days I was annoyed that Steve was all "I don't want anything. I'm not your father." But then I had Tessa and lost any desire to enter a store. So I've embraced his "Just help the kids make me something" attitude and he will be getting clay ashtrays (not that he smokes anymore) for the next 15 years. This year - the girls hand prints and some photos for his desk. Next year we might throw in some Brut by Fabrege.
Too funny! Hope mr. Husband had a happy day!
ha ha... well, brainwashing is a viable skill...
Not a tie! Girls just have no idea what to buy for us at any age do they. I am like Mr. Husband though. Most things I want cost a fortune.
Yeah, we've given up on the whole Mother's Day/Father's Day/Valentine's Day gifts. It's all OUR money, so it's kind of weird. We usually just get each other a card, which should be so much easier, but it's turned into a kind of competition to see who can pick out the best/most appropriate/funniest card.
darn that's adorable. We stayed away from daddy for the whole weekend so he could play geeky games with his friends (we went camping and he stayed home). Hope that was a good (and cheap) enough gift!
I think that video is a great Father's Day present in itself! She is so cute!
I had the fantastic idea to have professional photos taken (outdoors) of Dylan, for my dad. One problem... the photographer was booked until AFTER Father's Day. So I gave him a book and a card, and an IOU.
Too cute! I helped the girls draw their love for their dad on a mug from Starbucks and got a gc to stuff inside. The cup came out waaaaaay cute - in fact, maybe cuter than The Ex deserved, considering it was his fiance who picked out my (very thoughtful) Mother's Day gift. Taking the high road is so demanding sometimes.
