I Want To Be Star of the Week, Please and Thank You
Alexis was Star of the Week at school last week, which is to say *I* had a ton of homework. There was a poster to be made, treats to be concocted, and a general need to make a Very Big Deal out of every little thing.
Of course, Alexis loved every minute of the drama. She most especially enjoyed defacing the most beautious poster I have ever created.
I get an A+ for not spazzing out about her "personalizing" the whole thing. Feel free to pat me on the back. Several times.
Later, I earned a few dozen gold stars AND an A++ for making some super fun cupcakes.
I'm telling everyone who will listen that they were SOOOO much work, but the truth is that they were just vanilla cupcakes with the batter divided into six different bowls and tinted with gel food coloring. In other words, they took maybe five minutes longer than boring one-color cupcakes would have been.
Funny how the kid got to be Star of the Week, but I'm the one who did all of the work. ;-)

Dividing batter into six bowls and adding food color IS a lot of work. :-) Of course, I am a slacker mom who is not a fan of how overblown star of the week (or star student, as we call it) is at my kid's school. A poster (nice, by the way) and a treat are fine, but it annoys me when on top of that, my kid comes home with a craft she made, a silly dollar-store toy, and some candy and/or a treat bag. Cheese-o-pete, this is a not a birthday party.
It is clear why I do not have many mommy friends...
Oh my God. You divided the batter into 6 different bowls? That is VERY hard work! I still don't get how they didn't turn into the same colour once you mixed it all ltogether? Clearly I'm clueless when it comes to baking. Also, congrats to your little girl! And you do deserve a pat on the back for not freaking out at her writing all over that awesome poster!
You are one rocking' mom!! Cupcakes are beautiful.
With my oldest I remember slaving over his multimedia projects, then one day I said to myself "I've already ben through fourth grade! Let the kid do the work!"
It IS a beauteous poster!
That's the thing about the whole 'star of the week' thing...its SUCH a PITA..
However, I'm deeply impressed that you didn't spazz out over the poster!! I'm so bad about those things!! *lol*
I don't think I brought in cupcakes of any color. Well crap! Is it too late to go back five years after the fact bearing gifts? Hmm. Oh well, I did at least do an awesome photo montage. Which is hanging in our hallway after being framed ever so lovingly (after the fact). I actually enjoyed that part. Just wish I'd known about the cupcakes.
Those cupcakes are THE BOMB! I am so totally stealing that idea for the future!
Anything that looks hard, but it actually easy to make is genius in my book. They look great! And, I want to see a better picture of the poster!
adopt me?
I feel your pain. My kid was star of the week the week before Thanksgiving. They still do this in third grade, so I would keep that poster. My son has an enthusiastic first year teacher. We are getting home projects every other week which require craft materials and lots of work by me. I already went through school, I feel I don't need to know how to make an Indian dwelling out of modeling clay. But that's what I was doing yesterday. Of course I mean "helping" to do.
I photo of the cupcake is making me hungry ... And I ate enough food this weekend to last me for the rest of the month!!
Star of the Week is code for Let the Parents Take Over Responsibility This Week.
Plus, you're Star of the Week all the time.
That is because you are the SuperStar!! Mom of the Week! True story.
geez. I did student of the week with my 3rd graders, and they just brought in the pictures. I put them up on the bulletin board. No treats, either, that's just for birthdays. Is this a little kid thing i don't know about?
@Kim--Our preschool does a "be creative" sort of Star of the Week. We were allowed to do whatever...eat lunch with the kids, send treats, whatever. The only "requirement" was the poster and to fill out a worksheet.
