It's The Little Things That Matter In The End
Some days are more challenging than others, and today was most definitely One of Those Days. It was generally more chaotic than usual, but unfortunately most of the chaos was manufactured by others. It was done in a way that made it so I couldn't jump off the train.
So, along for the ride I went.
It started rough because even babies who are pleasant when they're sick have trouble sleeping. Mila achieved that level of congested magic that required that she be upright all night. When she was lying down, the gunk rushed to her head and caused SO much confusion for her. She would yell for help (I don't speak gibberish, but I'm pretty sure Mila can curse better than any sailor. She dropped ALL of the f*bombs every time the gunk rushed to her head), I'd pick her up, the gunk would rush back out of her head, and she would smile. Lather, rinse, repeat. Upright was the way to be.
What I'm saying is that Deliriously Exhausted would have been my band name this morning.
But, I got to spend my morning tending to a very smiley little person and her fantastically amazing bigger sister. That's a pretty good way to start the day.
It got better when I stopped at Starbucks to buy all of the caffeine. The car ahead of me paid for my macchiato and croissant, so HOORAY! I love random acts of kindness.
The in-between wasn't so great, but then I went to pick up Alexis from cheer practice. I had Mila, of course, and she was all sorts of happy.
Until she wasn't.
The minute we jumped in the car to head home, Mila decided she'd had enough of being happy and went straight into Pissed Mila Mode. She's really very good at expressing her anger at the world. She makes a furious little face and yells at the top of her lungs. By the way, a 15-pound baby can make a HELL OF A LOT OF NOISE.
As Mila was yelling, the totality of the bad day fell on my shoulders. All of the chaos, all of the stupid, all of it. BOOM. We were just a few minutes away from home, so I trudged through the bad day topped with yelling.
But then the yelling stopped.
I glanced over my shoulder and saw the thing that I see all of the time. It's a normal little gesture that happens a lot because, well, it works. Alexis had leaned over in her seat and grabbed Mila's tiny hand.
Holding hands.
Often that is enough for Mila to regain her composure.
They held hands the rest of the way home. In doing so, they shoved that bad day out the window.

Woman, you know how to write a happy ending. I'm glad this was a nonfiction one. XO
Despite the fact my entire month is one of those days, you've given me the gift of a smile. Thank you.
PS-the cuteness of your children is off the chart of ultimate cuteness!
You know how to grow 'em! I am LOVING Alexis's hair! This was a great ending.
PS - Have you ever tried essential oils? I just started using them and I honestly think you would love them. You know how to find me if you want my scoop. ;)
So sweet! Gorgeous girls, you've got there!
oh those girls just make my heart go kablooey!
as do your writings.
thanks for sharing.
I think I just died of a heart explosion.
