My mom and step-dad just visited Shanksville while they were in Pennsylvania last week. She said it was one of the most moving things she's ever seen, but that she was also gratified by how many people were there.
My husband was one of the EMT's that went to Ground Zero to volunteer. He still has the water bottle given to him by a little girl with a note taped on thanking him for his help. And he is in Freeport today working on the ambulance that is still his part time job (he's a health/PE teacher most of the time).
Excellent post. Thank you. I still remember that day like it was yesterday. When I read something like your post I am so proud my son is joining the army.
I was working as a flight attendant for United Airlines on September 11, 2001. I will never forget that awful day. Since then, both of my baby brothers have joined the US Army. One of them lost some fingers in Iraq and the other one...today is his birthday. That day 9 years ago has changed my life in so many ways.
Since I'm a "newer" reader of your blog, I've never seen these photos. Thanks for reposting them.
May all who knew loss on that fateful day find peace.
Moving photos. I really want to visit the memorial in Shanksville. In the late '80s and early '90s, my family had a house on Indian Lake. My dad is pretty sure one of the walks we took would have taken us right by the (then-future) crash sight. So eery.

Beautiful post. They will never be forgotten. I have been on the verge of tears all week thinking about 9/11.

Very Powerful.
My dad worked with Todd Beamer. Seeing his name in this post caught me off-guard. It's a beautiful tribute.

How much do I love that the passengers on Flight 93 voted about how to proceed? God bless America, our home sweet crazy home.
