Outstubborning the Stubborn One

Somewhere around the beginning of the year, I bought myself a fancy new camera. Er, fancier new camera. It was a much past due purchase which has left me with a bit of a challenge -- this is the time of year that I typically don't take a lot of photos. There just isn't a lot of sunshine happening, but my day is coming. Soon. When it does come, it sure would be nice if I knew what the heck I was doing. Knowing what I'm doing will come with practice, but WHOOPS. WRONG TIME OF YEAR FOR THAT.

(To clarify: the new camera is just enough different from Canon T2i for it to matter. My T2i is like an extension of my brain. I don't think about what I need to do to take a particular photo, my fingers just automatically do it. Not so much with the new camera. Yet.)

Because there hasn't been much sunshine but I very much so need to practice, practice, and practice some more, poor Alexis has been getting drug to awful places like the Zoo and Phipps a lot lately. THE HORROR! She has been forced to go fun places for no reason other than that I wanted to take her picture. A few thousand times.

The trick to the whole game is that Alexis knows. She knows I'm slower with the shutter right now and she knows that I'm not always getting the result I want on the first try. She is exploiting that to the fullest.

Milliseconds before that shot, she was standing there being positively adorable. She jumped just as I got everything where I wanted it to be.

I also have a ton of recent photos of the back of her head. Did you know that a 7-year old can spin around faster than an Olympic figure skater?

Of course, she stands perfectly still when I'm underexposing my shot. OF COURSE.

It's a good thing I'm persistent

(Also, BOO-YAH! That one is straight out of camera.)

(The next Getting Started with Your DSLR Workshop is scheduled for April 13th. Details are over here.)

My kids do that all the time when I am taking their picture. However, I absolutely love the one of her jumping. I know it wasn't the shot you were trying for but I love actions shots.
