Poised for Confidence (and a Chance To Win a $250 Visa Gift Card)
I consider it my job to be a fun squasher. I like to have conversations with my kid that preempt jokes, demystify life's oddities, and suck all the joy out of slang terminology. It started early with our first talk about where babies come from and will continue on and on. She knows the proper words for most everything; she understands the basic mechanics, and as time goes on, I'll fill her in on the details. It's all so that when puberty slaps her across the face, she'll be prepared.
It won't be a big deal because we will have already covered every angle.
The conversations won't stop there, though. It's not like our bodies magically stop changing once we get past that puberty thing. There is the fun of road maps of stretch marks from having a baby, the gray hair that comes in to remind us life is stressful (or maybe it's that genetics stink), breasts have a way of inching their way south, wrinkles make bumps in the road maps of our faces, and then there's that whole thing that comes along and makes puberty seem like a party.
Menopause.
I've (HOPEFULLY!) got a little bit of time before I'll have to deal with the symptoms of menopause, but frankly I'm a bit freaked out by them. Why is it that we talk openly about puberty but not menopause? WHY? I'm extremely fortunate that several of my friends are older than me, so I'll get a bit of a heads-up on what to expect.
I hope to give Alexis that heads-up as well. It may not happen for a while, but you can bet it will happen.
Poise brand is encouraging women to have The "Second Talk" in time for World Menopause Day on October 18th. I plan on tuning into the conversation so I can learn more about menopause and the solutions to some of the symptoms, thereby preparing myself for what's coming. The2ndTalk.com has information about things like hot flashes, dryness, and vaginal odor. They are all topics nobody seems to talk about, but we should.
And when it's time for me to combat what comes with menopause? Poise is introducing products designed to help women feel more comfortable, more in control, and more prepared to deal with the physical changes menopause and peri-menopause can bring. Be sure to look for details about the Body Cooling Towelettes; they look so refreshing.
It is easier to be confident as our bodies change when we know what to expect.

When I'm driving. I'm great behind the wheel! Yeah. I don't feel confident very often.
I feel most confident when I make an effort to make myself look good. It's so easy not to, but when you do so and someone notices a new hair cut or nail polish, it's nice.
I am most confident when I am secure. This includes all aspects of security, such as relationship security where I can trust my friends and family, life security meaning comfort with my ability to support myself and my family, and personal security, where I am happy with my appearance, which includes the security that Poise pads and products help bring me everyday.
I feel most confident when I am comfortable in my own skin, me just being me.
I feel confident when I look my best.

It's vain, but I feel most confident when my hair looks good.
I feel confident when I put more of an effort into myself - a nice outfit, fixing my hair, a little bit of make-up, whatever. Those extra few minutes it takes to do something nice for and to myself makes me feel good inside, which projects on the outside.
I feel confident (in my parenting abilities at least) when my kids do or say something that makes me really proud. An example of that would be actively participating at mass or during prayers.
I'm most confident when I can remember that everyone is dealing with the same insecurities as I am, but I'm not noticing their flaws. It reminds me that no one is really judging, especially not as harshly as I judge myself!

Menopause? shudder We women really get the short end of the stick. First we have to deal with blood and cramping and bloating and mood swings and then we have to deliver babies and then a few years later we get hot flashes and all the BS that goes along with menopause. Someone needs to call evolution and have a stern talking to with him (because only a man would sign off on all of that).
But back to the point. I feel most confident when I'm done with a hard workout, especially if in the process, I see a big bulky dude struggling with less weight than I can lift. It makes me feel strong and accomplished and like I am making positive changes in my life. I love the feeling of being able to go a little faster this week than I could last week and lift a lot more weight this month than I could 6 months ago. I feel most confident when I do all of that and know that it was for ME and not for anyone else.
I feel most confident when I am truly taking care of myself...excercising, eating healthy, getting enough sleep...all combined make a great difference for me.
I am probably most confident when my kids are happy - my body can change, my clothes fit differently, bad hair days - all that stuff can affect my confidence, and can change in a instant, but seeing my kids happy or successful makes me feel confident as a mom, which means more to me than body confidence.
Surprisingly (to me), I have felt the most confident now that I am a mom.
I feel my most confident when I try on a piece of clothing that did not fit me 4 months ago, and now, it either fits perfectly, or is a little baggy.
