Remind Me That The Fact That SHE Was Happy Is All That Matters, Mmkay?
Spoiled . . . lucky . . . fortunate . . . blessed . . . whatever you want to call it, Alexis is it. Last year taking Alexis to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique turned out to be one of the highlights of my life, so there was no way I was going to pass up an opportunity to do it again. There is no feeling like capturing joy on film as it comes shooting out of your kid's head in a rainbow-colored explosion of glitter and curls.
That. THAT is what happy looks like.
I knew this year would be a bit different. Alexis has grown a little, matured a little, and, most importantly, she knew what to expect. In the mind of a shy little kid, known situations are like hot chocolate on a cold winter day. Comfort.
While last year Alexis was nervous and scared during the Princessification process, this year She. Was. Ready. She climbed up into that chair all by herself, grinning from ear-to-ear as she waited for the forty pounds of gel and glitter to transform her into her self-defined personification of a Beautiful Princess.
There's a small part of me that dies inside every time Alexis tells me that she thinks wearing fancy dresses and getting your hair done are what make you "boo-ti-ful." However, I can't deny that getting dressed up is fun. Besides, who doesn't feel more glamorous and confident and amazing when they get all gussied up?
As Alexis sat way up high in that Big Girl Chair, stolen smiles flickered across her face and I *click*click*clicked* away with the camera. The photos that the professionals took of the Princessification last year were AWFUL, so I had no photographic evidence of the first go-round. I wanted to make up for lost time.
Realizing I was capturing a bit of a yellow cast and too many shadows because of the poor lighting in the room, I switched to manual mode. MUCH better.
And then it happened.
My camera battery died.
Just moments before Alexis was spun around so she could see the final results in the mirror, I realized that my extra battery was miles away at the hotel. There wasn't a damn thing I could do about it.
::tear::
::OK, so a lot of tears::
Just as Cinderella's carriage poofed into a pumpkin, my camera had poofed into a paperweight.
All I have is a handful of regrets and a crappy cell phone pic.
::sigh::
I guess this means I won't be winning that Mother of the Year Award this year. It might also mean I need to start harassing Mr. Husband to let us do this whole thing just one more time.

Oh no! No Bibbiti Bobbiti Boo shot? That stinks! Was there a photopass person on hand? I know they didn't do a great job last time, but maybe this time they caught a good one or two.
What's the problem? You know she won't take any of her Princess stuff off for the next 3 weeks... Plenty of time for pictures...
......it's fun girly times like makeovers that tell me that I NEED a little girl!
Posts like this make me so glad I have boys. ;)
I can't WAIT to experience this. The anticipation, the smile, the awed look when the chair is spun around the Princessification is revealed.
And I'm sure Morgan would have a fantastic time having it done to HER, too ;)
Love the smile. It's pure joy right there!
So incredibly cute...almost cute enough to convince me that I should shell out the bucks if we ever get to the house of the mouse. (As of February, my mother now lives less than an hour from there so we will get there someday.)
I wonder if the women who work in the salon are ever, ever completely free of glitter?
Ooh - I know! You can take *ME* to the salon and pretend I am Alexis! That way The Husband won't grumble...too much.
She is the most adorable-est princess! I think that's still a pretty good pic of her. Love the one of her checking out her nails! :)
I understand all too well. Took my kids to a pumpkin patch one year -- not a retail store, an actual pumpkin patch -- and lined up all of our finds, got the kids to sit nicely, whipped out the camera and found that I left the battery in the charger at home. Had to recreate the scene when we got home and it was definitely not the same.
Sorry... wrong URL in my last comment!
I could see this totally happening to me too...
she looks adorable!
My camera always dies at moments like that, too.
She's beautiful!
She looks just scrumptious. Man, this post makes so feel like a loser mom who has yet to take her kids to Disney World. My daughter would have so loved to have done this. She lived in a hand-made (not by me) Belle gown for 2 years. Oh yeah, and my camera battery died the instant that the Jonas Brothers made their grand entrance on stage at their last concert here - so I feel your pain.
OMG how gorgeous!
I wish they had that sort of thing around here when my girls were little...
So cute and your picture looks great. I remember my daughter loved the hair extensions and made me put them in so she could wear them home on the plane. They are still brought out every now and again for dress up. Great memories!
I think it TOTALLY calls for a do-over.
I already told you that you had to hand in your mommy blogger card on Flickr didn't I? Oh...if not...then hand it over.
Seriously, stuff like this happens to me a lot. More than I would like to admit. But she's a gorgeous little girl no matter what camera you use!
That has to be the cutest thing ever. I'm so jealous. I always wanted to be a princess, but they didn't do that when I was little and my parents took me to Disney. Is there an age limit? I may still get my princess day, yet.
AWE-dorable!
She looks so happy!!! She's a very well grounded kiddo, I think it's great that you're allowing her to explore all the sides of her awesome personality..
Sidenote: Thank you for reminding me to put a spare battery in my amazon cart!
Dead camera battery or not...You are most def Mother of the Year for taking her to do that! I cannot wait to take my daughter to do those wonderful things and to see her light up! Alas, I have some time yet as she just hit the 7 month mark last week.
That totally sucks. But the pictures you got are great! She is absolutely beautiful. What a princess!
And the important thing is that she was so happy about the whole thing. I'll bet she didn't care or notice that your camera died.
But Alexis still looks SO. HAPPY!
(I would have cried, too. A ton.)
Adorable.
absolutely beautiful, but then i already knew she was!!!!! how many grandparents have a grandaughter as beautiful as mine!!
