She's Really Very Good at Not Looking
I get a lot of people commenting that it must be nice having a kid who cooperates for photos. I'm sure it would be, but I don't have one of those. I mean, the past few months Alexis has been sort of getting into having her picture taken, but most of her life she's done her best to be completely passive-aggressive about the issue. Want to take her picture? Sure, go ahead. Just don't expect her to actually look at the camera. See:
I've seen enough of the averted eyes over the past four years to be absolutely certain she does it intentionally.
Somehow, some way, the kid manages to make passive aggressive look cute.

Mine doesn't want his picture taken either. If we hooked them up together, and they got married they would have the worst wedding photos ever. (not that is my plan, I would be crazy to be setting up my 4 year old)
Personally, I usually like it better when the kid/person isn't looking directly at the camera. It seems less staged.
Very cute photos - even if she isn't looking :-).
Who needs her to look at the camera? She is beautiful anyhow and your shots are awesome!
Yes, she does... these shots look like professional pix. Maybe Alexis has a future in couture modeling.
Love that dress she's wearing. So cute! I have a couple that HATE the camera. Funny faces abound whenever I try to take a picture.
I agree with C@KidThings - it looks so much more natural when they're not posing and mugging. A friend of mine does the whole Sears Portrait Studio Pose every time she takes a snapshot of her daughter. Legs crossed, head angled, holding something in her hand... It makes me want to scream. Give me averted eyes any day.
I'm a fan of the candid shot as well.
It's very model-y and high end photographer like, no?
Also, tell Elena hands off. I'm not above setting up marriages. Pfft. ;)
As much as I hate to admit it, you're right - I have seen it in action and it's kind of funny, actually. Mine - as you know - adores the camera. Maybe too much.
The Looking Off into the Distance makes her seem very deep and lost in thought, even if that thought may be "I wonder if I can have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich."
Think some of the best pics are ones taken when the person isn't looking at the camera. I hate when people pose for me, I want real in the moment pics.
She is damn adorable!
I love a great shot of the kid (or adult) looking at the camera. But, some of my favorite ones are when they're NOT looking. It's like capturing an entirely different feeling from the photo.
Your kid and mine REALLY need to meet. They are like two peas in a pod. How freakin' far are you from me?! We can't be THAT far from each other. There MUST be a decent halfway meeting point.
CLEARLY this is the comment for A LOT of CAPITAL letters to convey how I'm REALLY feeling ;)
I think Alexis dresses better than I do. Where in the world do you get all of her cute clothes? Oh, and the pictures are actually really good.
@Kim--I am a Gap Outlet whore. Although, I think that dress came from a regular Gap store. It was around $10 on clearance at the end end of last fall. :-)
I actually like those pictures better than the ones looking directly at the camera. They look less posed. More natural. I think they are gorgeous photos. And she is gorgeous too! :)
In any pose, looking at the camera or not, she's a darn cute kid. And I love that dress!
Egads!! She's getting so big. LOVE her dress.
She's gorgeous. I love these type of shots anyway... :)
Alexis has asked me to tell you that she isn't being passive-aggressive, she's being artsy. And I think there was a "duh" thrown in there.
