So Fast
I'll admit that Mila isn't a baby anymore about ten minutes past never, so I completely understand how Alexis feels. It's startling to look over at that tiny person and realize she's rapidly growing into something more.
Mila pronounces Alexis' name correctly now. It's ... UGH.
Alexis has always been either "Sissy" or "Awecksus" and it was perfect. But tonight the Tiny Human turned to her sister and perfectly enunciated "Alexis." With an "L." I caught it the second it happened, but Alexis took a few extra minutes to catch up.
"What did you say, Mila?" she asked. She legitimately knew something wasn't right but couldn't figure out what. It took Mila repeating the name about 15 times (because I kept saying, "Say it again") before Alexis realized what wasn't right.
"I didn't say you were allowed to say it that way," Alexis finally said. And she was MAD. Alexis was for real mad because her baby sister is starting to lose her baby talk.
To console Alexis, I pointed out all of the words that Mila still pronounces like the tiny baby she is. We've got yellow (lel-low), spaghetti (ska-betty), and several others. The list is definitely shrinking day-by-day, but we get to enjoy these last few for a while. Hopefully.
Alexis wasn't impressed. Instead of enjoying the little things we have left, she turned to me, shook her head, and said, "They just grow up so fast these days."
Okay, grandma Alexis.

My 5-year-old nephew still calls me "Byron" instead of "Brian", and I secretly don't ever want him to get it right. Because it's just so damn cute.
