The Bodyguard Revisited

Alexis and I have season tickets to go see fun theater shows, so we ventured our way downtown for The Bodyguard this past weekend. There was some debate as to whether or not we should trade those tickets for another show since I was pretty sure it was just going to be the soundtrack on stage, but then again, the soundtrack on stage. Is that a bad thing?

Spoiler alert: IT IS NOT A BAD THING.

What I didn't think about was the fact that Alexis had no clue that it's based on a movie. I don't know how I missed the fact that it was a movie literally before she was born, but there it is. Alexis doesn't know the magic of Whitney Houston when she had it together and she didn't know anything about the movie.

Long of the short, the show was really very good. It was essentially just the soundtrack on stage, but it was very well done and the singers were every bit as good as they needed to be. The set was even more impressive than the singing, which is saying something. It wasn't until it was over that I turned to Alexis and said, "We'll have to check Netflix for the movie," and saw her head explode. She had NO idea.

We then ran home, turned on the movie, and I watched for two hours as the kid fell in love with the movie that was the main entertainment at my first date. Which, UGH. How does time fly by so quickly? HOW? I didn't tell Alexis about that first date thing because then I would have had to answer questions and there were enough questions as it was.

"Who is that lady?"

Whitney, kid. Every little kid grew up wanting to sing like her.

"Does she still sing?"

::sigh:: Drugs are bad, kid.

"Whatever happened to the kid that played Fletcher?"

You should definitely look that up. DeVaughn Nixon. I recommend image searches. Also, you can watch his (step?)mom on Grey's Anatomy each week.

"Did Frank and Rachel end up together at the end or not?"

Can anyone answer that one? Anyone? Bueller? I have spent 20+ years wondering that exact same thing. I'm sure glad Alexis drug it back to the top of my memory bank.
