The One About Flying Poppy

If the temperature is above 50 degrees, my sunroof is probably open. It's just a thing to drive down the road with the roof open, even if sometimes it requires turning up the heat.

Mila has opinions about this thing. Fortunately, she's cool with the sunroof being open, she just thinks it should come with her window also being open. No matter the temperature, she likes to feel the wind in her hair. Fortunately, she can't actually open her window just yet, so I have to be willing to open her window. I'm an enabler, so to speak.

I enabled Mila today. I wanted the sunroof open. Mila wanted her window open. Everyone was happy.

As we cruised down the road, Mila's current favorite song played. She's all in on Fitz and the Tantrums "HandClap." She claps along with the song and basically she's the cutest human that ever existed. Don't bother to argue with me. As Mila clapped along, my phone rang. Two seconds later, I was deep in a conversation as our perfect afternoon flew by.

I caught the problem out of the corner of my eye with just enough time to hit the pause button on life and yell "NOOOOOOOOOOO!"

It was too late, though.

Mila, she who loves Poppy from Trolls very much, decided that Poppy might also like to feel the wind. Mila held up her favorite lunch box and then launched it through the window.

"Poppy fly!" Mila gleefully said. It took her a second to realize what she had just done, but when she did, I could see the weight of it falling to her shoulders. Her glee instantly flipped to horror as she started yelling for Poppy to come back.

Poppy did return, for the record. Mila is a very lucky little person because we happened to be driving down a road that sees very little action. I was able to turn around, stop the car, and grab the lunch box without seeing a single other person.

Mila was appropriately grateful, but now I'm worried that she may try it again. Will she send her baby doll flying? Her shoes? The possibilities are endless, so I guess I won't be opening my sunroof ever again.

::Sigh::

Maybe the Creepy Cabbage patch doll? But then Mila would be sad.
