The Piranha's Bite Is A Little Off Now
There are a lot of really bad ways to start your day, but I think today's way is one of the worst. Miss Mila, she of much spunk and spite, had to go under general anesthesia so she could have a bunch of teeth fixed. Or not fixed. Well, some of them got fixed, but two of them got kicked out of her mouth because they were beyond hope.
Which, hell. That just sucks. There's no good reason for someone that little to have such bad teeth, but here we are. Despite the fact that she truly does a good job of brushing and she consumes far less sugar than she would like, her teeth are garbage. Two of them visibly had cavities back in November. By the time insurance and doctors and all of it settled, we landed on taking care of them today.
(Tell me again about how our healthcare system is just fine. It took someone with relatively good insurance SEVEN months to get an appointment that would be covered and then we had to drive over an hour because insurance wouldn't cover it in the office near our home. UGH.)
Little Miss did great, of course. The pre-surgery part was delightful. Truly. Mila is HILARIOUS when she's loopy.
After, though. Mila woke up crying and the situation wasn't helped by the other preschooler in recovery. He woke up violent and angry and was basically screaming and hitting and doing all sorts of stuff. Mila fed off his energy and found her own dose of fury. She laid in my arms, sobbing and saying, "I'm MAD. I don't like this." Except, as she was saying it, she was drooling and bleeding and UGH. The poor kid.
Fortunately, the nursing staff figured out that she was mostly mad because the other kid was mad. We got a Get Out of Jail Card quickly. The next hour was absolutely awful (Because long drive! Thanks insurance!) but then things started to get better, little by little.
Right now, as Mila should be going to bed for the night, she has launched into her usual shenanigans. She's full-on back to being a jerk-faced four-year old, so yay? Maybe?
I can't wait for tomorrow when I'm still trying to keep her from eating real food and she destroys me. It's going to be great.
