The Teeter Totter Needs to Regain Some Balance
So. This happened.
And I was all, "Wait. WHAT?"
There are unexpected things and then there are VERY unexpected things. I think this one falls under the category of "ARE YOU SURE?"
It's total craziness.
(Thank you to the person who nominated the photo. You're kind of awesome.) (And thanks, BlogHer. You're pretty awesome, too.)
The crazy thing about it all is the timing. I have very barely picked up any cameras this year for a multitude of reasons, one of which is named "Alexis." She's stingy with the captures these days, which is fine. It's her face. If she doesn't want it here and there and everywhere, that's her choice.
There are other reasons, of course. My work/life balance reached an all-time level of terrible that could best be described as TOTAL FAIL AT THE LIFE PART last fall. Something had to give before life ran off and couldn't be placed back on the teeter-totter. That something ended up being photography.
It was a solid decision all things considered, but it still sucked.
I missed shooting weddings.
I missed shooting family portraits.
I missed shooting everything.
A lot.
But this past weekend, before I received the BlogHer news, I took on a shoot. It was for a little girl who I've photographed every year for the past few years, so I knew what to expect. And I knew I really, REALLY wanted to do it.
So I did.
And it was SO much fun.
I walked away from that photography session knowing that it was time to pick up the camera again. Something else is going to have to give for a bit so I can fit it in somewhere.
And then the BlogHer news.
Thanks for the excellent timing, universe. Now how about helping me figure out what to let slide?

I wish I could tell you a simple solution. The whole balancing thing kinda sucks.

Congrats, Lady! I love when the universe recognizes the awesome like that. :)
Congrats - the nomination is well deserved! : )
First off Congratulations (I just saw this- I am truly behind on my blog reading). You are an excellent photographer and so deserve the nomination!
That little girl had so much fun at that shoot and she still talks about Alexis and still sings the songs.
