The Unfortunate Case of Mobility Before Common Sense
Knowing that it's coming doesn't really stop it from being so OMG MILA IS SO ON THE MOVE AAAAAAAAAH!
Ahem.
Mila started crawling a while ago, but she was sloooooow for a bit there. And she didn't seem to know that doorways connect spaces, so she sort of stayed in the general vicinity of where you left her.
That sure was nice.
This weekend she really took off, meaning she is now like a bouncy rubber ball pinging all over the house. We have a big house, so you'd think I'd worry about losing her, but nope. She is like a moth to a flame when it comes to all things dangerous. Just look for anything that could be used to set the place on fire. That's where she is.
I'm not kidding. She worships at the Church of Electrical Cords.
In trying to figure out how to cage Mila, I'm realizing that baby gates and playpens aren't going to do it. The way our house is set up makes it really hard to partition off a Safe Zone that is within sight. Also, playpens are where babies are sent to be electrocuted, dipped in acid, and forced to eat from a spoon for hours on end. At least, I assume that's Mila's understanding of them based on how she acts when one is near.
So.
If I can't cage her, could I hook her up to a leash? I was thinking about something fancy like those tie-outs you use for dogs. I could give her the run of the entire first floor if I put the stake in the just right place.
Quick. Somebody add some foam alphabet letters and cutesy bunnies to a dog tie-out so I can pretend it's meant to be used for a baby.
(I don't know why the child insists on hanging out under the chair. It's a thing she does often, though.)

Omg that last picture OMG.
You are scaring me Michelle! Vansh is also ALMOST mobile now. For now he can only crawl backwards.. but strangely, everytime he is asleep on his tummy, he keeps moving forward! and yes!! his love for electrical cords scares me...
Charlie loved being under chairs! I have a photo of him around 18 months or so sitting underneath one of those wooden restaurant high chairs. He was fascinated by the safety belt clip and spend a good 30 minutes + trying to open and close the clasp. People were horrified that Charlie was sitting on the floor but hey, he was out of the way under the chair and happy!
My son loved cords for a while and started walking at 10 months. I have multiple types of covers and a few things of my own invention (like half a playpen around one corner end table blocking things off) and s Rubbermaid tote with a hole cut out of the back with the DVR and Blu-Ray inside it sitting under the sofa table the TV is on. It slows him down at least. Also the whole plug covers that the extra length of the cord wraps inside of and sticks out of on one plug.
My mother used an ACTUAL dog tie-out (the cork screw ones that you put in the grass) to keep me tethered to in the front yard, so I say go for it. Of course that was in the early '70s when parenting was a bit more loosey-goosey, but hey! I survived.
i have a hot glue gun. i will totally etsy up a tie out for you!
that first photo with the mohawk is priceless.
and that last photo? who knew parents needed playmats with mobiles above em when all one needs is a chair?!
