'Twas the Night Before Christmas

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the shelter
Not a creature was stirring, not even a pitter patter.
The stocking were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were all nestled snug in strange beds,
While visions of better days danced in their heads.
And mamma sat hidden in the back of the room,
With wrapping paper in hand and a vanishing sense of doom.

When once there was little hope, strangers told her she mattered,
They helped her change her course, even her clothes that were tattered.
To rescue they came, it was like a flash,
The sent toys and more toys in a dash.

The strangers sent gifts from all around the world,
Pittsburgh, Illinois, California, there is more I am told.
Finland, Germany, Canada and more,
So many people helped to change the score.

They sent dolls, electronics, Legos and crafts,
They sent the things that will certainly bring laughs.
A laptop is sure to change a teen girl's outlook,
While others will be able to escape the world with a book.

Those kids fell asleep not knowing there is hope,
Their mothers kept secrets even as they said not to mope.
Tonight they will wrap the presents with care,
Tomorrow eyes will open and discover St. Nick was there.

It couldn't have been done without you and you and you,
Strangers came together to make this holiday a little less blue.
Thank you so much for all that you've done,
And for always being blog readers that are second to none.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
