Not Quite Ready for Prime Time

Alexis likes to announce her bodily functions. It's not always necessary since she doesn't exactly poop roses, but it's not a bad thing either. So earlier today when she declared, "Poop!" then proceeded to grab a diaper and the wipes, I thought nothing of it. She was just following the rules that I have established. I will wipe her dirty butt, but only if she fetches and returns all the necessities for me.

However, when I rounded the corner to change her, I found that I hadn't quite understood what she was saying. She filled me in, "Bear pooped." She sat there with her Bear pinned down, wiping his bottom with a baby wipe. I was thinking this was really rather impressive, probably further evidence that I should quit being a lazy, self-centered Mom that plans to wait as long as possible to potty train the poor kid. (I do not want to deal with potty breaks when driving somewhere, eating, standing in line, shopping, or doing anything else that I enjoy. Go ahead, call the Potty Police on me. I don't care!) She set the wipe down, picked up the diaper, and tried to finish the job with Bear. When she couldn't quite get the tabs to reach, I offered to help. Just as I was fastening the first tab, I glanced at her and was startled to realize that she was EATING THE (not really) POOPY WIPE.

OK, so I know it was imaginary poop and all, but I think if you are willing to eat imaginary poop, well then that is all the evidence I need to know that you are not ready for changing real diapers. No siblings for you, you poop eater!

And now I present video of Alexis once again changing Bear's diaper. Please note the lovely gagging sound she makes when opening the diaper and the clever way that she stuffs the (not really) dirty wipe back into the container. So clean and classy. Oh, and the debate around whether Bear should wear an Elmo diaper or a Cookie diaper? She's just trying to push them off onto Bear so she can have all the Zoe diapers for herself. That is how she rolls these days--only Zoe is good enough for her poop.

She is so freaking cute. I love that she only wants the Zoe diapers for herself. And I'm with you on potty training -- it's not all it's cracked up to be. I'm not saying a kid should be in diapers until kindergarten, but that stage where they have to go RIGHT NOW no matter where you are or what you are doing? It sucks.

She is so gorgeous!

My Cookie Monster fiend, Avery, highly approves of the technique demonstrated in that there picture box. Of course she would have used 7 times as many wipes...

I love it! So cute. Way better to be changing bear's diaper than Meg's.

And if the Potty Police are busy at your house that means they won't be at mine. You just keep them busy over there.

Not the Mama--Exactly! The fact that I already have to go to the bathroom every ten minutes coupled with a Toddler insisting on going every ten minutes (and you just know it won't coincide) does not sound like fun. Alexis won't die if I wait a few more months.

Veronica--Thanks :-)

Amanda--I will trade you three Cookie Monsters for one Zoe. Now that you mention it, she is a bit stingy with the wipes. She must be saving them for her afternoon snack.

Karen--I can't even imagine Alexis changing Meg's diaper. Thank goodness Meg just got spayed and we won't have to see that in person.

Don't worry, I'll keep the Potty Police at bay. I know someone that is trying that "elimination communication" crap with their 6-month old. I'll just send the Potty Police their way to monitor their progress.

Such a cute video! Jordan is convinced that she was saying "Let's bake cookies" and Tyler, being the little copycat that he is, pulled out a baby wipe and started cleaning. :)

That is really cute! I love that you make her get the diapering supplies herself and put them back. Genius!

Is it really true that I am getting my bff back??

Or are they just playen a very nasty joke on me cause I was going to quit 2 days ago!!

What a cute video!

Punkin eats the wipes, too! (Clean ones of course!)

We just put her in pull ups b/c her daycare is attempting to potty train her and she loves the Ariel ones. In fact she didn't want to put on her pants the other day b/c she didn't want to cover up Ariel.

Just please tell me that she didn't pick up the "stuff the wipe back in the case" technique from you.

Lol. When I first started reading I thought she was changing a real dog or cat. Thank goodness you included the pictures! Lol. My mind is going.

Ashlee--Ashlee? Ashlee! Hi!

Jen--All kids need age appropriate chores. Alexis is stuck with putting things in the trash, taking the clean silverware out of the dishwasher, pulling clothes out of the drier, and fetching her diaper supplies until she gets big enough for more advanced tasks. My goal is to, eventually, lie on the couch all day and let Alexis do everything. I'm sure my plan will fall apart right around the time she figures out what I'm doing.

Shell--Shhhh! There's still drama on the back end and that nagging feeling that I might have to choke the redhead. It took all of ten seconds on the phone for me to remember just how frustrating she can be.

Madame Queen--I plan to avoid Pull-ups if I can at all avoid it. Dora Pull-ups exist, and those entering my house just might be the death of me.

Karen--If it looks clean, it's still good to go. Right? Just kidding. Actually, I think she learned it when I kept fussing at her for yanking 50 of them out of the tub so that she could eat them. I make her put them back, so I guess she extended that.

Leanne--Her putting a diaper on our Bulldog would be the greatest video ever made. If that day ever comes, I pray I have the camcorder handy.

RPM--I'm going to have to blame the husband. If I'm going to give him credit for changing a lion's share of the diapers (which he does), then I'm also going to have to give him the blame for the wipe stuffing. :-)

Have fun potty training! I'll just be over here in my corner spending a fortune on diapers.
