Signs of the Apocolypse
If you have a nest egg in savings, you might want to go on a little shopping spree. If you have a couple of things left to do on your Bucket List, you better get busy. If you have anybody you need to apologize to, you better pick up the phone. I have seen signs of the apocalypse, and we're all short on time.
In the past two days, I have cleaned out every closet in our house, some of which hadn't been opened in years because the massive piles of crap inside were lodged so tightly they were bound to come shooting out the second the door opened. I might have lost an eye doing it, but woooohooo for clean closets!
You should be afraid.
Yesterday, I took down the Christmas tree in Alexis' room. She walked in and discovered my sin about halfway through. She demonstrated that although she doesn't know what it means, she totally knows how to make a WTF Face. It took some major fast-talking for me to get out of that room alive. And with a fully boxed up Christmas tree.
You should be afraid.
When we first bought this house, very high on the List of Things We Hated were the interior doors. They were a fugly dark brown faux-wood sticker over cardboard sort of contraption. We ran out and bought a bunch of new doors over the years, but somehow, the upstairs ones never quite got installed. The pretty new doors sat down in our garage gathering dust for years. YEARS. This weekend, Mr. Husband installed them all.
You should be afraid.
The world is ending. Either that, or we put in an offer on a house today and expect to put our itty bitty townhouse up for sale right after Memorial Day.
COMMENCE FREAKOUT!

I'll be sure to be on the lookout. ; )
Good luck with the house "stuff!" How exciting!!
Good for you for getting all that done before putting it on the market. I remember praying that nobody would come view our house because I had put off painting the front door & hallway until after it was listed. I hope you get the new place with as little negotiating and stress as possible.
Good luck!
I really need to clean out our closets. One is filled with Target bags and towels and I really ought to go through it.
Oh, I'm digging all the necklaces your daughter has on. :)
Good luck with with the house. :)
Don't you wish that you'd have done all this stuff years ago so that you'd have had the privilege of living in the clean and updated house before it sold?
I'm snarky today. It's probably good that it's Monday and the family is headed in their respective directions.
I know 3 couples who put offers on houses this weekend. Before this I knew no one looking for new houses. I will cross my fingers for all of you, and hope that none put offers on the same house!!
Luck to you!
I'm totally off to spend whatever life savings I have left. :) Good luck.
All of our closet doors are in the garage and the baseboards still need cut and nailed down. If you can do it maybe we can too! Although, my husband said the other day that it would probably get done when we sell the house, doh.
Yay!!! for you guys and a new house. That is so exciting.
We so need a new house and I've been eyeing a couple, but Hubby is not as keen on the idea. So glad that a lot was accomplished though and that Alexis is ... um... uh...taking so well to it?
Maybe I need to pretend to be putting our house on the market. Maybe then I'll clean out the closet and get rid of the piles of accumulated stuff that hasn't been touched or moved in months. Sigh. Hope you get your new house and your old one sells quickly. And that picture of Alexis? Awesome! You take incredibly good photos of her - I'm sure she'll really appreciate it when she gets older.
FUN! (I kid. Having bought a house before, I know that "fun" doesn't enter into it.) But hooray for you! Seriously so excited for you. :) Also? I totally guessed it at Closets. The Christmas tree just cemented my guess.
Good luck with housing stuff!!!
I was so frustrated when we put our house on the market (2+ years ago) and did all this work to fix it up and make it look good for potential buyers. Why didn't we do it when we lived there? Why did I live with a broken faucet and holes in the wall? It's so frustrating to me. But it seems to happen with everyone.
@Katie--You so smart! I personally loved when our real estate agent went through our house on Saturday and saw the Christmas tree, but didn't say anything. The look on her face as she counted the months between Christmas and now was priceless.
FWIW, she doesn't have kids. She may not understand the weird things you do to avoid a battle.
Good luck with the offer/sale! I'll be interested to hear how it goes, as I'll be in the same boat in several months. Fortunately I moved more recently than you did, so I haven't had as much time to wedge things into my closets. Oh, but I've tried, I tell you. You'd be proud!
Keep us posted!
@Susan--Oh, don't you worry. Now that the flood gate is open, it's going to be all House, House, House, House, House up in here. We don't have time for anything else.
Except Penguins. Of course.
I absolutely LOVE this photo of Alexis! ROAR!
Good luck with the house/s. High 5 on your closets.
good for you! yay!!!! (this made me giggle)
Hehe glad you won the Xmas tree fight
I imagine the look on Alexis face wasn't far off of the one from the picture when she discovered the tree coming down.
On other news, keeping fingers and toes crossed you get the home you put the bid in on. Double those wishes on selling the townhouse quickly. (Hugs)Indigo
Yeah! When we sold our last house we did so much - simple things that we could have done at any time - and I was like "wow, this house isn't so bad." I've been looking around our current house wondering what to do to get husband to do some things now, so we can enjoy it, instead of waiting and doing it for someone else.
That is all kinds of exciting!!! I hope the news is good and that it comes fast...and I LOVE all the super rad necklaces Alexis is sporting.
Woo hoo!
DUDE. Freaking out right along with you. THERE IS A FOR SALE SIGN IN MY YARD. Dude.
I really wish you had taken a picture of Alexis's WTF face. heee
I hope to read all about the move of the fishtank of horrors to a new residence. Good luck. PS - What are you going to do with the koi pond?
So, this house . . . it's a bigger house, yeah? With more bedrooms to fill?
j/k!
Here's hoping your offer was accepted with no troubles, and your current house sells lightning fast!
@Jayna--It has FIVE bedrooms. And they will NEVER EVER EVER EVER all be full. EVER. For so long as I live there. NEEEEVVVVEEEEER.
*ahem*
Good luck! The fact that I can see the floor of my office again is another sign the end is near.
That's not scary! That is exciting! Let me know if I can help in any way. I'll go to your open house, and stand near the other couples gushing "I LOVE this...and this...and OH, look at this!!!"
Congratulations on the new house!! Hope all goes well with the townhouse sale!!
The real sign of the apocalpyse, though, will be when I actually clean my office/guest room. Then ya'll should really be afraid!
So... while I have absolutely nothing clever to say, I will tell you that I LOVE that picture of Alexis!
And here's to hoping the whole house thing works EXACTLY the way you want it to!
